40TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER

Here are the arrangements so far. We have a room at the 56th Fighter Squadron for Saturday, April 28. The cost, tax and tip, is around $30 per person. A cash bar will be available for those who want to have a drink. We were none too soon in making the arrangement. The room we used last time was already booked; however, there is another very nice room on the first floor which we will be able to use from 1pm to 5pm. The food will be available, buffet style, at 1:30 pm.

• Salad-Tossed garden salad or tomato mozzarella salad
• Entree- Chicken marsala, or penne a la vodka, or sliced steak with mushroom
• Dessert-Cheesecake or chocolate mousse
• Unlimited coffee, tea, and soft drinks.

Hello fellow modelers from sunny Florida. All of us here at the 2012 IPMS/USA National Convention Committee hope that everyone is having a good new year so far. We are looking forward to seeing everyone this August for a great convention. There are many updates that we would like to pass along to everyone, so here they are.

Convention Hotels : We have almost 3000 room nights booked at this time. The main convention hotel is sold out, but we do have an overflow hotel that is just a short monorail ride away. We encourage everyone to pre-register for the show as this will speed up the process of getting your name badges and convention packets to you.

Also please remember that to enter models in the contest you have to be an up to date IPMS member through the convention. IPMS will be on site to do this or to take new memberships, but if you can have all this taken care of prior to arriving at the convention it will expedite your convention experience.

The tours, t-shirts, extra convention pins and the banquet all also available.

Let me take a minute to discuss the banquet. Hopefully everyone will take the opportunity to attend the banquet. We understand that it is a little more than any other banquets in IPMS history, but the food is phenomenal. We had an opportunity to sit down and sample each menu item for the banquet and I truly believe that the quality and quantity of the food is superb. Chef's created the menu and they also prepare it. Not your typical rubber chicken type banquet meal. Wait a minute. You have a special dietary need. When you register, please make a note of it and your dietary need will be passed on to Disney and they will accommodate it for you.

Resuming Troop Support

Resumption of Troop Support: Though we still do not have an overseas Point of Contact for Troop Support, the IPMS-USA web site now has a POC for support to the Wounded Warrior center in San Antonio (see below for details). I've already sent one box to support this effort and will be sending more. The donation bin will be making its reappearance at the January meeting. As a side note, since don't have to ship through the APO/FPO system, we can now send enamel paints.

Several IPMS members have, since 2009-2010, been organizing and managing a domestic "point of contact", that being the Warrior Family Support Center and Center for the Intrepid located in San Antonio, Tx at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Ft. Sam Houston, Tx. Troops are sent to BAMC for treatment and rehabilitation at the Center For the Intrepid. In some cases the troops remain onsite for up to 12 months. BAMC and the Center for the Intrepid are known as being among the elite medical facilities in the world for treatment and injuries received in a combat zone.

Through the generosity of hundreds of IPMS members, IPMS chapters, and modelers, the Warriors stationed at BAMC have received models, tools, books, movies, and other hobby related items through the IPMS Wounded Warriors Chapter.

That 70s Theme Contest - June 2012

The year 2012 marks FORTY FABULOUS YEARS OF BPMS!!!

What better way to honor this momentous occasion than with a theme contest celebrating the early years of the club! During the 70s the BPMS was formed, became IPMS Chartered, hosted the Big Apple Con 10/11/1975, NoreastCon 6 05/1977, and was active in bringing the Intrepid to NYC starting in 1978 (even though she didn’t arrive until the early 80s).

AIM: Build something that members would’ve built during the 70s. That means anything that was kitted up through 1979 is eligible. Simple. I would prefer if members keep mods down to what was possible in those days. I don’t want anyone breaking the bank on aftermarket resin and / or photo-etched parts, but mods with sheet plastic, putty, etc. are all acceptable. Aftermarket decals are also fine.

I am planning on some special certificates to commemorate the following:

December was a great meeting with an amazing showing to close out the 2011. We had 29 members and 1 guest who brought in a 27 models for the theme contest.

MONOGRAM THEME CONTEST: We had a great showing for the contest. Winners will be announced at the next meeting.

DINNERS AND ANNIVERSARIES: We continued discussions regarding the 40th Anniversary Celebration. We’re leaning towards the 56th Fighter Group, like we did 10 years ago.

AWARDS & HOLIDAY DESSERTS: First things first, on December 6th we held our annual Holiday Dinner. We had over a dozen members congregate at Sweik in Brooklyn. We were as pleased with the food and drink as we’ve been for years now.

MODEL PLEDGE 2012: The pledge worked out pretty well in 2011, so we’re starting it up again. Remember, it’s NOT a contest, we’re only trying to inspire more members to build! Details below.

KIT SALE: Bring models to sell or trade. You might want to bring some money too. You never know what might show up on the block!

2012 MODEL PLEDGE: It seemed that we kept the concept entirely too loose for members tastes last year so we tightened them up a little in 2011 and it was a success. Just bring in an unbuilt model between January and March 2012 to declare as your pledge model. Please have it finished for the OCTOBER MEETING, for a display. After October you may bring back your pledge for the November meeting for the last contest of the year. For your efforts you get an additional FIVE Super Raffle tickets for completing your pledge! Sweet! Easy enough!

SOME WORDS FROM YOUR HUMBLE NARRATOR.

As we enter 2012, there are some things that I would like to say. I couldn’t be more proud to continue being an officer for this fine organization especially with such a major milestone as our 40th anniversary is coming up. So I’m sponsoring the first Theme contest of the year to mark just that. If anyone wants to join me, feel free to contact me.

TECHNOLOGY. I mentioned last month that it appears more of our members are connected to modern technology than ever before. I mentioned that while dues have barely gone up since the inception of the BPMS, everything else in the world has. I suggested that members could help save the club money by getting all the club news from our website. All the news from this Bulletin also appears about a week before the club meeting on the site. If you want to take that route, you can speak to Jeff or me, as we do the mailings.

CONTEST CATEGORIES. Last month I was asked about dioramas. Dioramas are a hot spot for discussion in any contest. What exactly makes a diorama? The rule I’ve always quoted from IPMS is, “One or more models depicted in a scene that tells some story.” For the purpose of the BPMS, we only have five categories and we keep them loose for interpretation. If you build a diorama that fits neatly into one of the other categories (Air, Armor, Figures, Sea, Sci-Fi) you can feel free to place it in that category. If you feel it doesn’t fit in any of the above, we have Miscellaneous. Our contest structure has worked so well over the years because it’s so relaxed. Remember, anytime you have a question on anything, feel free to speak with any of the officers or senior members. We’re all happy to assist!

CONTEST NIGHT 4Q11: We had our final contest night of the year. Did you take advantage of the last chance to rack up votes for 2011? Hopefully I’ll have the numbers fully crunched and awards ready for the December meeting.

SUPER RAFFLE: We had close to 100 prizes so chances were around 1/3. The prolific were rewarded for their efforts, and everyone had a good time.

DINNERS AND ANNIVERSARIES: Who likes Czech food? Looks like we’ll be at Sweik again for the holiday dinner, which will take place on December 6th. It’s a good time as it shouldn’t interfere with other holiday parties at work, etc. Details will be available at the meeting and the BPMS Blog. Stay tuned. NOMINATIONS: What?!?!? Fuhgettabouttit! These guys only put in one year so far! They have another year before we let them go!

2011 MODEL PLEDGE: Not bad. The majority of members who signed up for the 2011 Model Pledge came through with a finished product. We have 13 pledges on the tables and the guys told us a couple words about getting it done. Looks like we should be bringing this activity back for 2012.

Currently, we do not have any active Points of Contact to whom we can mail the donations made by the club. I've been in contact with the IPMS-USA lead for troop support and he also is lacking any current contacts. With the rapid draw-down in Iraq by the end of this year and the long-standing difficulty in establishing contact with troops deployed to Afghanistan, I am reluctantly suspending the collection of donations at the monthly chapter meetings in anticipation of a continuing lack of POCs. Should any members have any contacts or can suggest a worthwhile recipient of the remaining store of kits and supplies, please email me at shuvlboy [at] gmail [dot] com. I have the notebook of thank you emails and certificates of commendation we received and can make it available at any meeting. In closing, I would like to commend the membership for their sustained and generous support over the past six years. Monogram Models Night

Activities at the BPMS December Meeting will include our Monogram theme contest. All you have to do to enter is build any Monogram kit issued before the merger of Revell-Monogram. Kit-bashing and modifications are okay, but please no resin or aftermarket photo- etched parts. If you have the original box art and/or instructions, please bring ‘em along for display. To set the stage for our Monogram Night, here’s a quick Internet history of Monogram Models by Frank Colucci.

The fit of the parts wasn’t always great, and the working features usually didn’t work for long, but all of us got some of our love of plastic modeling from Monogram kits. Monogram’s founders Robert Reder and Jack Besser worked for Comet Models making wooden recognition models and scale drawings for US forces in World War II. They started their own company in Chicago in 1945, initially selling balsa model ships. In 1948, Monogram branched out with a wooden Jet Midget Rocket Car propelled by a CO2 cartridge. “Speedee-Bilt” flying kits like the Midget Mustang racer and Kaydet biplane trainer soon included plastic cowlings, propellers, and other details with their die-cut wooden parts. With the market success of Revell’s easier-to-build plastic kits in the early 1950s, Monogram entered a plastic kit competition that continued until 1986 when the two companies merged.

Monogram issued its first all-plastic kit – a 1/25 scale Midget Racer – in 1954, and quickly expanded its model range to include aircraft, ships, military vehicles, and spacecraft. The company’s first all-plastic aircraft kit was a B-26 Invader. Many Monogram kits included exceptional details and accessories. The first release of the C-47 Skytrain in 1955 had paratroopers, and the 1/77 scale Ford Trimotor arctic explorer that same year gave the modeler a dogsled team. Competition with Revell gave many kits working features. In 1955, a 1/83rd scale B-66 Destroyer dropped a nuclear bomb when the builder pushed a button on top of the wings. A 1/72 scale SA-16 Albatross had both retractable landing gear and a diorama crew to be rescued from a life raft.

The growing line covered a range of detailed subjects and non-standard box scales. The Monogram Wanderlust sailing yacht was 1/54 scale, and the Snark cruise missile in 1957 1/80th. Monogram introduced well-detailed car models in 1/24th scale, a little bigger than the competition. In 1959, the company issued a 1/24 1932 Ford 'Deuce' hot rod with a Mercury engine and detailed suspension. Not all the cars were real -- in the early 1960s, Monogram launched a series of "fun cars” based on vintage and fantasy automobiles. The Li'l Coffin show rod included a skeleton; the Red Baron a Fokker triplane; and Rommel’s Rod an Afrika Corps-ghost crew.

Monogram models also got bigger and more elaborate. The company started releasing 1/8 scale car kits in 1962, and the 32nd-scale Phantom Mustang, 24th-scale Phantom Huey, and 48th-scale Visible B-17 had large clear parts to show off interior structure and working parts. The 1/72 scale B-52 was released in 1968 with a motor for jet engine sound.

Also in 1968, Monogram started a still-successful line of Snap-Tite models that required no glue for assembly. That same year, Monogram was acquired by Mattel Toys which reorganized pushed more working gimmicks. The motorized 1/48 Flap Jack 'Air Farce' had the shape of the XF-85 Goblin with flapping wings and a turning propeller. The product line nevertheless grew with accurate, popular WWII types and jets. The 72nd scale B-36 in 1977 remains the largest plastic aircraft model in mass production. Financially troubled Mattel sold Monogram Models to private investors in 1984, and the company was sold yet again in 1986 to the holding company that purchased Revell.

Jack Besser died in October, 2004 at age 89; Robert Reder passed away this February at age 93. The company they started continues to operate under Revell Inc., headquartered in Elk Grove Village, Illinois and now owned by Hobbico based in Champaign, Illinois.

September was a busy meeting with news and the Aurora Theme. We had 28 members and no guests who brought in a total of 38 models. More details below.

September Meeting

DAWN OF MODELING THEME: In the beginning, there was AURORA! Members brought in 22 Aurora models, including 16 unbuilt, for this theme. We had an informative stroll down memory that night.

SWAP NIGHT: Members brought in items to swap and sell. I saw a lot of goodies changing hands. Outstanding!

DINNERS AND ANNIVERSARIES: We briefly discussed dinners and the 40th Anniversary of the BPMS. That should be in the second quarter of 2012. If you have any ideas for the celebration, feel free to present them at the next meeting.

REGION TWO: The club voted to sponsor a trophy package. The package will be a Joe Turner memorial and will be for the Civil Aircraft Category. The Region 2 will be held in NJ on 10/21-22. Show details will be available at the meeting.

August was a jam-packed meeting with the quarterly contest AND pizza night! We clocked in 29 members and 1 guest who brought in 26 models, for a busy meeting.

August Meeting

BPMS ANNUAL CONTEST – 3Q2011: I’m looking at the paperwork and it looks like we had a pretty good showing of about 20 models for the contest. It also looks like it was a good scattering as there are votes in all categories. Good show!

PIZZA NIGHT: This is the biggest event of the year, and I MISSED IT! As a result the club was able to cut back by two pizzas. Well done, the night ended with only three left over slices!

REGION TWO: The club voted to sponsor a trophy package. We held a special raffle for the cause. The show is coming up in October in New Jersey. More details will be available at the meeting.

NEW MEMBER: She attended three meetings and builds models, therefore, Kamilla L. was voted in as our latest member! You may also know her as Konstantin’s daughter.

DAWN OF MODELING THEME: In the beginning, there was AURORA! Please bring in any Aurora models you may have, (built or unbuilt) and please be prepared to tell the group a couple words about them. It’s just a display, not a contest. No worries!

SWAP NIGHT: Bring in stuff to trade or sell. It would also be a good idea to bring a little cash with you. You never know when that elusive kit might show up, and there’s no tab at this bar!

BPMS ANNUAL CONTEST – 3Q2011: Where has the time gone? We’re already up to the third quarterly BPMS contest. You know? The third installment of the annual contest. You may bring in anything that hasn’t been in a quarterly contest, including entries in the Twilight Zone Theme Contest for this. Be sure to fill out your contest entry forms, without proper paperwork you can’t be judged. The votes from the quarterly contests get crunched together for the Annual Contest Awards Ceremony in DECEMBER.

PIZZA NIGHT: This is possibly the biggest event of the year. PIZZA NIGHT! There have been many traditions around pizza night: the Cockrums' onion pizza, Captain Bart’s red jumpsuit, and your humble narrator killing a whole pie each of the past 3 years. All you have to do to get in on the fun is be a member in good standing. So that means that your dues must be paid up, and no guests. Done. Have fun!

June was a busy meeting with a contest and bbq. We clocked in 30 members and 1 guest who brought in 15 models, for a light theme contest.

BAR-BE-QUE NIGHT: Who doesn’t love a BBQ? Our group certainly loves it! Vinny, Don, and Gordon worked the grill and kept the food coming while the rest of the group made quick work of it all. Thanks to the members who contributed to the food. A special thank you to the gents who ran the grill. That’s some hard, HOT work out there!

TWILIGHT ZONE THEME CONTEST: And there it was! We had some gorgeous models on display for the contest. The awards will be presented during the JULY meeting.

IPMS NATIONALS: I am really bad at reporting the shows that we support. I will do better in the future. Last month we voted to sponsor a trophy package for the IPMS Nationals this summer.

PAPER MODELING CLINIC: We’ve been mystified by the quality of the paper models that Charlie has been bringing in for years. Now with the addition of Tomasz to our fold, it’s a good time to have a clinic hosted by our paper modeling experts on the subject. Bring your notebooks, this will be educational!

TWILIGHT ZONE THEME CONTEST: The contest was last month. The judging took place. The sponsors will be presenting the awards during the July meeting.

CLASSIC MONOGRAM THEME CONTEST

Some thoughts on the December theme contest:

We would like to challenge the members to select a Monogram pre-merger (Revell/Monogram) kit of any type, air, sea, armor, auto or anything in their line and build it using some of the techniques you have learned, the skill you have acquired and the material you have collected to build the best representation of the prototype you can. See just how good some of these kits really were.

A chat between Jimmy Maroney, Frank Colucci and myself at the March meeting with regard to some of the models displayed for the ‘my favorite model’ segment led to the idea that maybe we should encourage the members to build some of the ‘older’ kits we built in our youth.

Frank’s Monogram Phantom became the focus of our discussion as Monogram produced some of the first really accurate (outline) and really detailed (variant choices) models available to us in the 60’s. They began to move away from the toy-like features like bomb drops and retracting landing gear and on to cockpit detail and multiple variants.

True they all had raised panel lines and details, but that was the state of the mold-making art at the time. It cost far less to remove small areas of the mold to create the detail than to remove vast areas of the mold to leave the detail behind.

Truth be told, when some of the early models are finished with care and painted with some shading and weathering they are as good visually as any kit today. It is only under close scrutiny that their age becomes apparent and the way the detail is depicted becomes evident.

We would like to exclude kits from molds after the merger with Revell and any kits from 3rd party molds acquired by Monogram. We would also ask that you limit the aftermarket ‘stuff’ to a minimum. Why put $40.00 worth of PE on a $5.00 kit. Use your parts box and take a shot at scratching some extra detail.

If you have any doubts about a particular mold call one of the sponsors (or email) and we will do a little research and let you know. Frank C., Frank T. Rich B. and Jimmy M.

To sum up – will these kits build into models that will compete at the contest level – probably not without a lot of work – but considering what they can be had for in $$, when compared to the TamyGawa or limited run kits go for, they can be built into very respectable likenesses of the prototypes. There seems to be a pre-conceived notion that these older kits are not worth building – that notion is BS. The majority of us don’t build for the ‘CONS’ so give it a try.

Some thoughts on building older kits:

In any type of hobby or pastime, as with anything humans can conceive of as an activity, there are levels of involvement. It usually starts with an interest and progresses to participation, then to a passion and finally to an obsession.

For most of my life I have been fascinated with things that go fast. First it was soap box derby cars and while my dad was alive, speed related control line model airplanes. Then came bicycles (banked track @ Kessina Park). Go karts were next, then in college USAC sprint cars in Oswego, NY.

After I graduated and got married, my wife put her foot down, so I took a step back to stock class drag racing. I also ran a modified Volkswagen, my wife thought how fast can a Volks go? 10 seconds at 120 plus. Let’s not tell her.

As kids came along and money got tighter, I used the cars to go to the market and got involved with fledgling R/C airplane racing and that has continued on and off till this day. Now the bleeding edge is getting too sharp as engines top $600.00 per copy and the airframes top $1000.00. (not including radio equip., batteries or fuel not to mention travel and lodging) So once again I look to static modeling to decompress.

Each time I move back from the 200 mph toys and re-enter the world where the toys don’t move unless thrown, I am impressed with the mold maker’s skills and the subjects presented and most of all the level of detail included.

The thing that troubles me though is the rising cost of the gems we purchase and I ask myself are they that much better than what came before and does that make the preceding kits inferior?

It troubles me that a kit that 5 years ago was ‘bleeding edge’ is now relegated to the ‘swap meet table’. Is it really that bad??

While the detail on the newer kits may be more refined than an older kit of the same subject does that mean the older kit is not worth building? If you can’t, or won’t, spring for the newer kit and have the older kit don’t hesitate to build it using your skills to make it the best it can be.

Several years ago one of our members purchased the then new Accurate Miniatures SBD Dauntless. He had a Hasegawa SBD with the PE dive brake detail. He sold it to me for a fraction of what he paid for it because it ‘wasn’t as good as the AM kit’. Not being the proud sort I have started it and should have it done for the 4th Qtr. Contest.

The question I have is, without close scrutiny, when I’m finished, will you be able to tell which kit it came from – will it not be recognized as an SBD and will the quality of the Hasegawa kit not show through?

We build models and show them to our colleagues because we wish to do something that not everybody is motivated to do, to create something that will be appreciated by like minded folks and to satisfy ourselves with the sense of accomplishment in finishing the project.

Let’s try to put the concept of newer being superior and older being inferior behind us and simply recognize the concept of different. Build it because you want an example of it in your collection. Build it for the reason you bought it in the first place, because you liked it or it inspired you.

Let’s build some of the older kits and make them as good as our skills will allow and show everybody how good a $10.00 ‘swap meet special’ can look on our display tables without feeling we need to apologize because it ain’t the latest and greatest.

Maybe we might consider an annual theme contest where the members pick a kit – any subject – where the original mold is let’s say 25 or 30 years old and see what can be created.

Your Chapter can make a big difference in this IPMS election cycle

It is "Election Time" and I'm appealing directly to you to enlist your aid in "getting out the vote" in this IPMS election cycle.

Please make the effort at your next chapter meeting, or whenever and wherever you might see your chapter members, to circulate a copy of the ballot. Please consider collecting thos ballots during the meeting, placing them in an envelope, and sending them to the National Office. The mailing address appears on the ballot. Your members can remove the ballot contained in the May/June issue of the Journal and have it in the outgoing mail in under five minutes. Or, if you wish to save some postage, you can go online and register to vote on the IPMS website. It takes only about five minutes, is easy to do, and we promise that the electrons you use will be recycled.

The url for the online voting system is http://voting.ipmsusa3.org/

You are being encouraged to vote "in favor" of the amendment by both the Constitution Review Board (a committee of indivuals who are not currently serving on the E-Board) as well as the current members of the E-Board. The recommendation statement by the CRB is available in both the Journal and on the website. If you do not approve of the amendment then please, by all means, vote "no".

Lastly, only two of the current E-Board officers wish to change office. I am not running for President but am seeking the office of Secretary. Larry Randel, the current Secretary, is running for Dir.of Local Chapters. All other offices are uncontested and are being sought by individuals who are seeking office for the first time. Please vote "Yes" for the five candidates who are running unopposed. They have made the committment to serve IPMS and its membership back in January when nomination petitions were made available. Now they need your support and your vote will provide that very important and much needed statement of support.

There you have it. A simple request from me to you. Please vote. Please encourage your friends who are also IPMS members to vote. Please do it now and do not put it off for another minute.

BAR-BE-QUE NIGHT: I was thinking that this isn’t a very long run activity in the BPMS timeline, but we’ve had BBQ Night almost as long as our stay at our current home, The BBSC. This is simple, you bring yourself in, be sure your dues are paid up, and pay approx $6 (definite price will be settled at the meeting because everything has gone up in the last year!). Then eat. We just ask for a little order and consideration. Please wait for everyone to get their first helping before heading back for seconds and thirds. If you’d like to donate chips, sausages, etc, feel free to do so. Also, we must thank Vinny Rosati for allowing us to use the facility grills, and I’m sure El Presidente Don Illjes will lead the way of volunteers lending a hand.

In between there will be one WIP night, which would be nice to show us your progress (April). After October you may bring back your pledge to the November meeting for the last contest of the year. For your efforts you get an additional FIVE Super Raffle tickets for completing your pledge! Sweet! Easy enough? Now go have fun with it!

March was another great month. Due to an accident on the Belt, things got started a little late. However, we clocked in 24 members who brought in 17 models, for a meeting that originally looked like it might be a bust. We even voted in a new member. Nice!

A plea from the Pres

If you have yet to visit the IPMS website and view the recently posted E-Board minutes (April, 2011) you will find two significant items of business mentioned. The first item is the list of candidates for E-Board. The nomination process for the upcoming E-Board election has come to an end and there are some new faces on the list. The downside to this list is that only one office has more than a single candidate.Â IPMS is led and staffed by volunteers and my hope is that there would be more interest among the membership in taking on one of these very important roles. The upside is that the individuals whose names appear are all proven leaders in their local chapter or at a national level, and thusly, bring significant experience to bear. The only seat which has multiple candidates is the Director of Local Chapters position. Both candidates have experience as Regional Coordinators and both are, to put it plainly, nice guys.

The second item is the mention of Amendment 2011-01 by Ron Bell. You may have visited the forum and read some of the posts regarding this very important amendment. This change is greatly needed and I ask you to vote in favor of the amendment. Please consider that it was written by Ron Bell, who is the 2nd VP (in charge of all things regarding the National Convention at the national level) and is the single most knowledgeable person on the planet when it comes to National Conventions and how the Society should approach this annual event. The amendment will update the Constitution to reflect the changes that have taken place over the last 45+ years. The amendment will also provide a flexible, dynamic, and realistic platform which will make the Convention process easier for the host chapter and for the Society as a whole.

A ballot will be included in the upcoming Journal and the plan is to have all six E-Board seats as well as the Amendment question on the same ballot. You will also be able to cast your vote online through the IPMS website. The online site will be active at or about the same date as the Journal with the ballot begins showing up in your mailboxes.

The most significant point is that, whether you favor or oppose the amendment, you vote. Not voting accomplishes absolutely nothing. No good comes from this abysmal level of non-participation. When you view the ballot you will see a Yes/No/Abstain option. Please mark one of those three options. It Is Important!

CONTEST NIGHT 1Q2011: The tables were FILLED to capacity with contest entries. This was a most impressive kick-off to the 2011 annual quarterly contest. Did you have trouble filling out your ballot, I mean with all the choices in each category, and not the under-complicated ballot we use!

Troop Support Update – Report to Date for 2011

Since establishing contact with SPC Craig Perry at FOB Speicher at the beginning of the year, we have sent four shipments, totaling 86 hobby items, consisting of:

· 1 Airbrush
· 1 Compressor
· 30 Model Kits
· 14 Bottles of Paint
· 14 Paint Brushes
· 6 Hobby Knives
· 6 Hobby Magazines
· 4 Sanding Blocks and Sticks
· 10 Miscellaneous Tools

In addition to the request for the airbrush and compressor, SPC Perry has requested more paint and glue. Please keep in mind that paints and glues must be non-flammable. Also, we cannot ship aerosol cans through the USPS.

Thanks again for your donations!

A reminder – we can't ship any flammable materials, so no model airplane cement or paints with a flammable base such as enamels, lacquers, and some acrylics (Tamiya, for example). Frequently requested materials are paintbrushes and automotive kits.

T-SHIRTS: The first wave of shirts arrived a couple months ago. The BPMS blue and white never looked better! Our t-shirt artist came up with another concept that we’re taking orders for now too. Logo on the left-side of the chest, with two options! Ask about it at the meeting. Approx. $12 a pop.

TAKE A PART / LEAVE A PART: Gordon will bring in the big basin monthly for “Take a Part / Leave a Part.” Please feel free to toss your spares into the big bin too! This is something we can all add to or take away from.

40 YEARS OF THE BPMS: 2012 will mark the 40th Anniversary of the BPMS. We have a year to set up a bash. It should be fun! A dinner is certainly in order. Maybe we should figure out a way to tie in a theme contest. Ideas? Let the officers know!

January Meeting

NEW REGIME: The new Prez will be Don I, with Charlie N in the Veep seat took over the reigns and did a great job. We look forward to a couple of fun years with these guys running things!

KIT SALE NIGHT: Kits were bought and sold. Simplicity!!

SPONSOR: Some members along with some club backing will be sponsoring a trophy package at Mosquitocon in the name of recently deceased long-time member and one of the founders of the BPMS, Joe Turner.

CONTEST NIGHT 1Q2011: This will be the first installment of the BPMS quarterly contests. You can bring in something that hasn’t been to a quarterly contest, including anything that might’ve been newly built for December’s theme contest. Categories will be set up on the tables and please be sure to fill out the proper contest paperwork for your entry.

2011 MODEL PLEDGE: It seems that we kept the concept entirely too loose for members tastes last year so we’re tightening them up a little in 2011. In between there will be one WIP night, which would be nice to show us your progress (April). After October you may bring back your pledge to the November meeting for the last contest of the year. CHRISTMAS DINNER: When the previous Bulletin was printed the Dinner had NOT yet been held. I can now report that it was a resounding success with nearly as many members as a regular meeting! Couple that with good food and cold beer and it was a good time. Outstanding!

Troop Support Update – January 2011

Frank Colucci volunteered at the December meeting to be my backup for collecting donations at each meeting. My string of absences in the second half of 2010 understandably led to some confusion as to whether the club was still actively pursuing a Support the Troops program. Frank and I will ensure that a box for donations is clearly marked at each meeting. There is a new contact as of December 2010 at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Speicher in Iraq. As mentioned at the December meeting, a lack of current contacts in Iraq had interrupted what had been our continuous support beginning in 2006, so a current contact is a welcome development.

November was a good month. We had 26 members and 2 guests who brought in 26 models.

November Meeting

HELLO MR. PRESIDENT: In a move never seen during my years with the BPMS, we “convinced” Don I. that we could use his charismatic personality to lead the group for a couple years. He accepted the nod and we have a new Prez starting in January. Charlie Nelson will be the Veep. We’re looking forward to having the new team up front!

CONTEST NIGHT – 4Q10: This was the final installment of the BPMS Annual contest. Did you take one last shot for the year? At the time of this printing the numbers have already been crunched for the year and the awards should be ready for the December meeting!

SUPER RAFFLE: Howie S. was our top builder of the year and had a good chunk of the 210+ Super Raffle tickets we handed out. Chances of winning some of the goodies were about 50%, which are great odds. Build more in 2011 for more chances to win stuff!

2010 MODEL PLEDGE: We ended up the year with about a third of the pledges completed. That’s not bad for the first year. We’re refining the concept for next year.

NEW MEMBERS: They came to three meetings so we put it up for nomination. Joining the ranks of the BPMS are Seamus B. and Tomasz K. Welcome to the fold!

HOLIDAY DINNER: Went off GREAT! We had a huge turn out and the food was great. What else can you ask for?

GUESTS: It pays to have the websites up because we seem to continue attracting interested parties to the meetings. I think we should have a couple guys up for nomination in October!

October Meeting

WIP NIGHT: We had a couple WIPs on the tables, but, in general, not too many, so we had everyone tell the group a couple words about their models. Educational!

NOMINATIONS: Hmm, what? After two years as Veep Israel turned down the nomination for President. Charlie Nelson has accepted the nod to become the next Vice-President, but we will find out in November if Prez Keegan will hang onto his job a little longer. Stay tuned!

NEW MEMBER: He came to three meetings, brought in finished models and accepted the nomination to become a member. JOE BERGMAN joined the ranks of the BPMS when he was voted in as a member in October. Welcome to the fold!

September Meeting

SWAP NIGHT: Models were bought, sold, and traded, as expected!

HELL(ER) OF A THEME NIGHT: Hugh had this idea for a HELLER theme night. We ended up having a much better showing for this one than the Revell night. The bulk of the models on display we Heller kits. We started off asking the gents to tell us a couple words about their Heller Models, but ended up asking everyone to speak, even the guests!

HOLIDAY DINNER: We started discussion about the Holiday Dinner because it’ll be here sooner than you think! We’re really thinking about the same place as last year. The food was really good and they had ABBA music the whole night. What more can you ask for? Bill Murphy will be looking into it for us. More details to come!

A NIGHT OF REVELL-RY: This didn’t go over too well. I don’t know if it was the concept, or just bad timing, but only Ed Johnson brought on something by Revell. It was an old jet from his collection. Instead, we had what looked like a bi-plane theme. We had four or five or so. Since the numbers were off we had all the members tell us a couple words about their models. Thanks guys!

BBQ NIGHT PT 2: For a couple bucks you could’ve gotten in on the left-over burgers and dogs from June. It’s okay, they weren’t sitting out all that time! We’d like to thank Vinny, again, for use of the grill and the hard and hot work.

Be sure to place them all in the proper categories and fill out all your paperwork so everyone knows you’re in the contest.

TAKE A PART / LEAVE A PART: Gordon will bring in a big basin monthly for “Take a Part / Leave a Part.” Please feel free to toss your spares into the big bin too! Gordon will bring the club parts box back for each meeting for members to add or take away from. This is something we can all benefit from!

40 YEARS OF THE BPMS: I brought up at a recent meeting that 2011 will mark the 40th Anniversary of the BPMS but it seems that after further research that 1972 was actual the start. So now we have extra time to figure out how we’ll celebrate it. We have a year and a half to set up this bash. It should be fun! A dinner is certainly in order. June 2010 Theme Contest: NAVAL AVIATION

Naval Aviation is the theme for June’s contest. The guidelines are pretty broad – your entry only needs to have some link to naval aviation past, present, or future. The theme includes air-capable ships, land-based aviation with naval connections (such as patrol aircraft like the P-3), and all countries with a naval aviation heritage are included (for US, Japan, UK, India, and France, for example). Sci-Fi has a lot of nautical connections that will fit the theme, as well. FLY NAVY!

April kept the ball rolling for 2010. We had 27 members who brought in 18 models of which 14 were WIPs. More on that below.

April Meeting

WORK IN PROGRESS NIGHT: Several members brought in what they were working on. We had 14 works in progress and of those 5 were part of our model pledge program. The members each took a couple minutes to discuss what they were working on and their methods.

BASIC SKILLS CLINIC: Charlie Nelson, Frank Colucci and your humble narrator each took turns discussing how we get started on a model project. The areas covered were basic tools, supplies, and methods. Even the veterans of the hobby could’ve learned a couple tips and tricks since everyone has a different way of handling things.

A NEWS BRIEF: The Aberdeen Proving Grounds will be closing down in 2012 and will be moved to Ft. Lee.

CONTEST NIGHT 2ND QTR 2010: This is the second installment of the Quarterly BPMS Annual Contest. That means that any model that you haven’t brought in for a BPMS Quarterly contest is able to compete. Don’t forget to place a contest entry form for each model, and don’t forget to vote!

PARTS BOX NIGHT: Technically, every meeting since Gordon started bringing in the parts bin has been a Parts Box Night, but this month we’re making it more formal. Bring in extra parts you have laying around, or models you’ve scrapped and lay them out for other members to have a grab at. And keep your eyes peeled, that missing part you’ve been looking for might be out there. If you don’t feel like dragging your spare parts back home, feel free to leave them in the parts bin.

Don't forget, the NAVAL AVIATION TTHEME CONTEST will be in JUNE!!!!

March was another impressive meeting despite the severe traffic delays. 25 members brought in 26 models.
March Meeting

DECAL SWAP NIGHT: I got in late, but I heard there were some decals out there. If so, it was the night to do it!

ALL’S COLD ON THE EASTERN FRONT: This was an idea that Hugh passed along to me so I have to give him credit for the good showing. Winter’s last hurrah had 13 models on display for this theme night. Nice work guys!

MODEL PLEDGE: March was the last month to get in on the deal. A couple guys got in some last minute pledges. This will be a fun activity.

WORK IN PROGRESS NIGHT: Whatcha workin’ on? Your pledge? Nice! Bring it in to show the group what stage you’re at. Also be prepared if we ask you to tell the group a couple words about your WIP.

BASIC SKILLS CLINIC: We’ve added several new members in the last year or so and we’ve thought it might eb a good time to bring back some basic skills clinics. For this round it will be Charlie N, Frank C and your humble narrator discussing the early stages of model building. So we’ll likely cover (but not limited to) parts inspection, planning, instructions, cutting from sprues and resin lugs, prep, cement, putty, sanding, etc. Since there are three of us, and depending on time we might each take turns discussing our usual plan of attack. Hopefully we’ll share something you don’t know, and members can feel free to add to the conversation.

T-SHIRTS: The first wave of shirts arrived last month. The BPMS blue and white never looked better! Our t-shirt artist came up with another concept that we’re taking orders for now, too. Ask about it at the meeting. Approx. $11 a pop.

GENERATING MONEY: The club will continue to sell magnets and patches and run raffles and to generate some extra money. Can we count on you to help fund various activities and sponsorships?

IPMS / USA News: The IPMS Forums

I'm pleased to announce that, effective today, the model building discussion forums of the IPMS/USA are open to non-IPMS/USA members. No longer closed to non-IPMS/USA members, we welcome modelers to our forums and hope to share our passion for model building with everyone.

We hope that opening the modeling forums will encourage non-members to join and give IPMS/USA members a chance to share their knowledge, experience and passion for our hobby with others.

Along with making the model building forums public, a new "Ask the IPMS" forum has been set up and John Ratzenberger will be hosting it. It is meant to be the public face of the IPMS/USA and will contain useful information for members and non-members alike.

The "From the Forum Administrator" forum will also be opened for comments. IPMS/USA members can now interact with me directly to discuss and debate forum policies. Feel free to post relevant questions about the discussion forums there also.

Finally, the former Open Discussion forum has been transformed into the new Bull Pen forum. This forum, open only to IPMS/USA members, will be a lightly-moderated forum set aside for members to discuss whatever moves them. It has its own set of rules to follow and no cross-posting or quoting from threads found within this forum will be permitted. What happens in the Bull Pen, stays in the Bull Pen. For those members who'd rather not even see this forum, I can modify their accounts to make that wish possible.

The goal of these changes is to make the IPMS/USA discussion forums more accessible to more modelers. It is hoped that their contribution to this site will transform it into something of value to IPMS/USA members and non-members alike.

Now that we have opened the doors, please remember that the modeling forums are for talk about models and model building. Any comments or criticism related to the IPMS/USA must be posted in the IPMS/USA Business section. I've instructed the moderators to be on the watch for this sort of thing and to move these threads to an appropriate IPMS/USA Business thread as quickly as possible. The person posting such items in the public threads will be warned.

By and large, the model building forums have been helpful and friendly places. Now more than ever, we want that to continue.

QUARTERLY CONTEST: Our first contest of the year had an impressive showing of high quality models. Did you enter the contest? There are three more installments before the final numbers are crunched so there’s still time to get some votes!

MODEL PLEDGE: Pledge to build a model in 2010 and if you get it done you will get extra super raffle tickets. We have 20 members making pledges so far. Please make a choice and bring it in for the meeting and get on the list. March is your last chance to get in on the fun! Find more details in this Bulletin.

SHOW US YOUR TOOL: We had a good assortment of various tools of our trade this year. Between Jimmy’s scuba tank and Howie’s Orb from Phantasm, we had quite a few chuckles too!

Coming this summer will be The Twilight Zone Theme Contest sponsored by Joe Bergman, Russ Holcomb, and President Don Illjes. Basically build something / anything from the original Twilight Zone series, and be able to explain the connection, to The Twilight Zone. BPMS Model Pledge 2010

The BPMS seems to be in the middle of a modeling recession (a period of reduced modeling activity). So to help start up the building, The BPMS officers came up with a BPMS stimulus plan. The Model Pledge. All we ask is for all members in the club pledge to build one model in six months. So with the new year starting, we want members to bring in an unstarted model kit in during the January or February meeting. This is the model you plan to build for the pledge. We will make a note of your kit and hope to see it completed in six months. We figure we will start with the February meeting and hold the Modeling Pledge display in August.

We would like everyone in the club to participate. We are not asking for a lot. You can build the model kit, out-of-the-box, or detail it. We don’t even care if you don’t finish the kit, it can be a work in progress. You can even use the model for the next theme contest. But we want everyone to try, after all this is a modeling club. We will be giving out super raffle tickets for those the participate.

A completed model gets 5 Super raffle tickets.
A uncompleted or work in progress model gets 2 Super raffle tickets.

We may change things during the next few months with the Model Pledge. We will keep everyone updated. The BPMS officers would like all members to build a model for this group project.

December was a meeting with 24 members and no guests who brought in a dozen models.

December Meeting

HOLIDAY DINNER: We had it at a Czech / German place by the name of SWEIK Y WBEHKA. The previous Bulletin went to print before the big event, so here’s the run down. Ten members showed up, the food was good, ABBA was playing, and we had a great time.

HOLIDAY DESSERTS: A bunch brought in various desserts for the group. Thanks to everyone who brought treats!

THEME CONTEST: The sponsors were a little unhappy with the turnout of only four entries so we decided to defer to January.

The Next Theme: SIZE MATTERS!!!

BPMS Joe Turner Memorial Theme Contest:
SIZE MATTERS!

He terrorized Tokyo! He devastated Chinese Buffets! He built lots and lots of models! Joe Turner – IPMS #90 – was a founding member of the Brooklyn Plastic Modelers Society. He cast a giant shadow over BPMS meetings for 20 years. Modelers around the world knew, and scurried before, the Big Guy!

To remember Joe, our December theme contest calls on you to build a subject that was the BIGGEST or smallest of its kind at its time for its country or historic setting. The Titanic was the biggest passenger ship of its day! The Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus was the world’s biggest tank! The McDonnell Goblin was the smallest jet fighter ever built for the U.S. Air Force! All are available today as plastic kits!

The contest gives you lots of latitude in the BIGGEST or smallest at any time. What was the biggest American, British, or Russian tank of WWII? What was the biggest mortar/artillery piece? What was the smallest midget submarine? If Godzilla was the biggest lizard of his day and Rodan the biggest bird, what was the biggest insect? What was the biggest or smallest of those Gundam robots? Got a question about your entry? Just ask the big-hearted sponsors of this contest – Frank Colucci, Frank Tripoli, Hugh Alcock, and Bob Pokorny.

How do you measure up? All you have to do for the December meeting is build a model of the BIGGEST or the smallest of its time! Size of the subject, not the model, matters. Sponsors will pick winners based on workmanship and creativity. It’s what Joe would have wanted.

CONTEST NIGHT 4Q09: We had our final regular contest night. That was the last chance to grab some votes for the annual contest. Due to vacation and work I will try to have the results for the December meeting. If not, expect everything in January.

October meeting was another spacious one. It’s official! We’ll have the entire place to ourselves from now on. We had 29 members who brought in 10 models and 7 WIPs.

October Meeting
HOLIDAY DINNER: We continued discussion about the dinner. Bill said that he found a Czech / German place nearby that might be a good option. If that doesn't work out, there's Red Lobster, which worked out well last year. We will make a determination during the November meeting. The dinner will be held early December.

NOMINATIONS: Nominations? Fuhgettaboutit! Ray and Israel are stuck for another year. Congrats guys!

WORK IN PROGRESS NIGHT: Some guys brought in what they were working on and told us a little bit about their processes.

T-SHIRTS: Charlie found a place that can make us up some BPMS logo t-shirts and showed us a very nice prototype. At this point we’re looking at likely $13 a pop.

FINANCIAL REPORT: The Trez informed us of our financial position. We have $420 in the till with $50 from the raffles.

SUPER RAFFLE: This is the reason why you’ve been building models all year! You are awarded one super raffle ticket for each new model you brought in over the year. If you have stuff (books, vids, models, etc.) that you would like to part with, feel free to donate them for the raffle. Be sure you’re up to date with your dues. No dues, no tickets!

Members can write a paragraph or two on how they got interested and/or re-interested in modeling.
Show us your workbench: Have folks take a picture of their modeling habitat at home and describe what they like and/or don’t like about the setup.

OTHER THEMES
Would you like to join in and sponsor this theme? Some other concepts we’ve kicked around are: Healthcare, Take One for the Team, New York, Alternate Realities, Things That Sweep / Swing, Go Big, Go Small, Extreme Modeling, and Things That Sting. There’s an anniversary for the Air Force and thirty years for Battlestar Galactica. There’s also an anniversary for Tet Offensive. Also, long time member Dave Cockrum passed away in late 2006. Years ago he was a part sponsor of a Humor In Modeling Theme Contest. We recently lost Art Gerber who was the IPMS Head Judge for Armor. Armor Theme, perhaps? Some new ides that came across my desk: Procrastination – contest for models that weren’t completed in time for a theme contest. It’s time I got some recognition for what I do best! Two divisions – ‘finally finished’ and ‘still not finished, but I thought I’d enter it anyway’. Another… Battle of Britain Theme idea. If we call it “1940 - Conquest and Defiance”, we can set up obvious types of entries for armor, figures, ships, and a/c dealing with war and war preparations in 1940, or other historical defiance events (like the Alamo or Wake Island or saying I’d rather watch the Eagles game than go shopping with the wife (it doesn’t have to be successful defiance)) or Conquest (pretty much anything Rome set its mind to). We could also extend the conquest and defiance into Sci-Fi by adding subjects dealing with conquest (the Empire, for example) and defiance (the ragtag group led by Luke Skywalker, for example). So, this might be an idea for the DEC theme contest rather than just a meeting theme. Contact the officers if you want to help sponsor any of these contests.

A Home Away From Home: Vinny mentioned that another facility located in Canarsie might be interested in our assistance. This would be a great opportunity for the BPMS since it will leave us a back-up plan if we can’t meet at the BBSC. More details will be forthcoming.

String Theme Night: This didn’t go so well. There was only one model with strings on it. Oh well, better luck next time.

Work In Progress Night: Who doesn’t have kits on the workbench? Bring in some models you’re working on to show the group. We will probably ask you to say a couple words on your work also.

Nominations: Nominations? Fuhgettaboutit! These guys are only in their first year! We’re not letting them off so easily. They have another year coming to them!

Take A Part / Leave A Part: Gordon will bring in a big basin monthly for “Take a Part / Leave a Part.” Please feel free to toss your spares into the big bin too! Gordon will bring the club parts box back for each meeting for members to add or take away from. This is something we can all benefit from!

Generating Money: The club will continue to sell magnets and patches and run raffles and to generate some extra money. Can we count on you to help fund various activities and sponsorships?

BPMS Supports the Troops - Report to Date: 03/06 - 09/09

Our ‘Support the Troops’ campaign passed a significant milestone at the end of July this year when we shipped our 500th model to the Baghdad Hobby Club. That’s a lot of plastic, not to mention the over 1,200 modeling tools, bottles of paint, decals, magazines, and other miscellaneous items. The modelers at Forward Operating Base Speicher received our initial support as we responded to their request for donations in early 2006, but over the past four years, we have expanded our support to include: the central kit distribution point in Baghdad; modelers in the middle of the Indian Ocean at the U.S. base in Diego Garcia; and small units deployed in locations remote from the larger bases who now missed the support of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation associations and turned to us.

As club members, we’ve donated in different ways. We’ve shown up at meetings with multiple boxes of kits and we’ve given steadily, kit-by-kit, over the past four years. Kits and tools won in a raffle have found their way into the donation bin by the end of the meeting. There’s evidence that the troops were in mind on that last trip to the dollar store when those small, but essential tools and supplies show up in multiples. There have been nights when the donations from members have only been limited by the carrying capacity of my car. A club that has few car modelers donated an air compressor, airbrush, and over 30 car models in seven months to support a special request from soldiers suddenly relocated from Baghdad to Basra. And no one has donated with the goal of being recognized for it, but simply because they wanted to show their support in a tangible way to the troops who have sacrificed so much since 9-11.

And the troops are grateful. We have received thank you messages from the following; doubtless many others also enjoyed the kits and supplies we donated as a way to break up the monotony or ease the stress of a deployment

August meeting allowed us the entire facility again. We had 24 members and 1 guest in attendance who brought in 21 models and their appetites.

THIRD QUARTER CONTEST: The third quarterly installment of the annual contest is done. We had a good showing of quality work throughout all the categories. Nice work, guys! The next and last chance to score some votes for 2009 will be in November.

BARBECUE NIGHT: It seems to be bad luck. We get rained on for all our BBQ nights, yet it doesn’t slow down the feeding frenzy at all. The group went through a pile of burgers, sausages and hot dogs like no one’s business. Special thanks go out to the cooking team, anyone who helped out, and anyone who brought in extra goodies to munch. We’ve seen bad weather for the August meetings since we started this activity, so the officers of think it would be a better idea to swap the dates of pizza night and BBQ night. June is generally cooler so it will be less brutal for grilling and pizza night can go back to its traditional night in August.

STRING THEME NIGHT: This is a theme WITH strings attached! It’s not a contest, but a theme display night. So interpret the theme anyway you like, but try to TIE it in with the STRINGS theme! (Sorry about that, I couldn’t help myself!) Use your imagination. Have fun with it!

SWAP NIGHT: Just what it sounds like. Bring in goodies to sell or trade. Also it would be a good idea to bring in some money in case the “grail” kit shows up at the right price!

July meeting allowed us to spread out a bit. We had the entire facility to ourselves for a change. We had 29 members and 1 guest in attendance who brought in 37 models. Two months in a row with great showings of work!

July Meeting

APOLLO THEME: We had a lovely variety of kits on display for the anniversary of the Apollo Mission. Vinny had, literally, a couple words on the subject and ran some NASA footage all night long.

PRIMER AND FINISHES DISCUSSION: I know I spaced out on my portion of the discussion, but luckily Frank Colucci came well prepared. Between what we had to say and additional words and suggestions from other members, we had a very educational and spirited discussion.

RESIN DISCUSSION: Matt L. showed us his latest resin casting project and showed us how the use of vacuum or pressure will improve the quality of a cast. Some good stuff!

Any donations of extra food; eg: sausages, chips, desserts, etc.; would be greatly appreciated. The grill masters will be Vinny, Don, and your humble narrator. The officers will be keeping track of service to be sure distribution of food is appropriate. Thanks in advance for any / all assistance and cooperation in this event.

June was another cramped and busy meeting. We were still confined to half the space, but we did just fine. We had 28 members and 2 guests in attendance who brought in 31 models. That might be our best showing for 2009!

PIZZA NIGHT 2009: Never underestimate the collective appetite of the BPMS. We did a pretty good job clearing out the pies.

IT’S A MAD MAD MAD MAD MODELING CONTEST: The theme contest sponsored by our master awards maker, Ed D., wais finally upon us. The turn out for this contest was spectacular! There were 27 entries on the tables and the quality of the work really made Ed’s job of judging very difficult. Ed’s top three were:

Besides the top three, Ed distributed a liberal amount of Honorable Mentions and asked everyone to tell the group a couple words about their building experiences for this theme.

IPMS Region 2 Convention JerseyCon

As you probably are aware, NJIPMS will be hosting the Region 2 show this year. JerseyCon will be held on Friday and Saturday, October 16 & 17, 2009 at the Holiday Inn in Runnemede, New Jersey. JerseyCon is generating much excitement throughout the region and beyond! The vendor turnout will be exceptional and we are expecting tables filled with models. We are building on our success and experiences gained from our famous, annual MosquitoCon show to help make JerseyCon a Regional for the ages!

Of course, nothing would be possible without the help and support of our neighboring chapters. So, we are reaching out to ask if your club would please consider sponsoring one (or more!) trophy package(s) for JerseyCon. The cost of each package is $35.
