Region 1 Update 12-10-8

Hi everyone,

Here we are in December, getting closer to the holidays and the end of the year. There are only a few weeks left to complete the rechartering issues a few chapters are having. Mostly it's only the need to get the payment into Dick. A few have membership issues that should be easily resolved, but the main point is time is running out quickly. To those that have already completed the process, I say Thanks!! And to the rest, time to get on the stick!! Let me know if I can help.

I received the attached document from DLC Dick, and your chapter may find it interesting. While I'm no techie, and don't really understand what it's about, I do understand your chapter can save a bundle of money if you want to participate in the offer. The offer is only available to IPMS chapters, and is being made by IPMS member Chris Mobley. Please share this with your chapters web master and e board, and contact Chris if you're interested.
I found out today that Revel is getting out of the production of NASCAR models. Only the current stock will be available, and everything will be gone sometime in February. They had been planning to produce a CoT model, but found the licensing fees from NASCAR to be ridiculously high, and the number of units sold to turn a profit would have been enormous. If I were a NASCAR type modelin' kind of guy, I'd consider laying in a supply to cover any urges I may have in the future to build that sort of model, after they're gone you understand. But that's just saying what I might do under those circumstances. Of course your mileage may vary.
I'll be out of town between Christmas and New Years. I'll have limited e mail access, and no access to any of my files while gone. We're going to Vegas to see our children and grandson, and help stimulate the local economy. Our son is getting back to the kitchen, and wants to work up his chops before starting the new job, and we've graciously agreed to play crash test dummies in his culinary warm ups. Hey, it's going to be a tough trip, but I think I'll get through it!! In the meantime, please pass along my best wishes to you, your chapter mates, and families for a very merry Christmas, and a happy and joyous New Year. May the next one be better than the current one!!

by Bobby P

October had a good showing of members and models on the tables. We had 28 members bringing in some 17 models and 5 WIPs.

OCTOBER MEETING!!!

Nominations For Officers: When 2008 runs out, so does the current regime. Taking over in January will be Ray K. in the President’s seat, and the new Veep will be Israel A. Congrats guys!

Work In Progress Night: Some members brought in some models they were working on and discussed them with the group.

You can see pics from each meeting on Gordon’s blog:

On the agenda: November

Super Raffle: Possibly the most eagerly awaited club activity of the year! This is the reason why you’ve been building new stuff all year. For each new model you built, brought in, and filled out a card for entitles you to ONE super raffle ticket. We’ll have a variety of prizes to give away. If you have anything that you’d like to donate to the super raffle, this is the meeting to bring it in!

Contest Night – 4th Qtr 2008: This is your last chance to rack up votes for the annual contest. This is the fourth installment of the quarterly contest that the members vote for. Awards should be ready for December.

Our next meeting will be on November 21, 2008.

2009 Chairman's Statement

Good morning everyone.
Here is a note/update I recieved from Bob Collignon, Chairman of the upcoming Noreastcon. (Yeah, I know it's in May, but it's still upcoming!!) It contains information of some of the cool stuff they have on tap for the show. We'll see the return of the Blind Build, which is a great event. If you missed the last one, you won't want to miss this one, it's one of the most fun events I've been a part of!! Don't miss it!!

Dear Modeling Friends and Families,

My name is Bob Collignon and I’m the Show Chairman of the IPMS Region I Convention, NOREASTCON 2009. I’m writing to tell everyone about the great show that we, IPMS Niagara Frontier, is planning that we really want YOU, your family and friends to attend! IPMS Niagara Frontier is hoping to see faces from our own Region 1 and from our good friends in Region 2 and 4 plus our great modeling buddies from the North-Oh Canada !!!

Our show includes some great guests and seminars, a “Make and Take” for our Junior modelers, a “Blind Build” team competition during Happy Hour on Friday (many of us remember the hilarity of our 2003 “Blind Build”), hourly raffles starting Friday, a packed vendor room, lots of room for models, great looking awards and a family style NOREASTCON banquet! Don’t miss it! We’ve added two additional special aspects of the show; a special “entrant only” raffle for a $50 gift certificate to Niagara Hobby and Craft Mart and, most important, we will have donation bins, for new kits, modeling supplies or cash, for our Service Men and Women in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Please go to our constantly updated web site at www.noreastcon2009.com . Lots of detailed info is on the web site including photos of the show location.

As all you experienced show planners surely know, a large model show needs lots of sponsorships and we still have some available. IPMS Niagara Frontier and the NOREASTCON 2009 show committee would appreciate all sponsorships that you and/or your club might be able to do! Sponsorship information is on the web site, as is a list of current Sponsors and available categories. A “hearty HUZZAH!!!” to all those clubs and individual members who have already sent us your generous sponsorship support!
Any questions please write me at cjltd@roadrunner.com or bobdave@bobdave.com or phone (d) 716-875-0234 or (n) 716-837-2204.

I hope to see lots of old friends and lots of soon to be friends at NOREASTCON 2009!

My Best Regards to All,
Bob Collignon , NOREASTCON 2009 Show Chairman,
IPMS Niagara Frontier, Chapter Contact

PS. don’t forget a new model or modeling supply for our troops. God bless them all!

A letter from Iraq

...members of the Brooklyn Plastic Modeler’s Society

I wanted to write and thank you for the models you sent to Iraq for our soldiers. I am the commander of the 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division based out of Forward Operating Base Falcon, in Southern Baghdad. Model building is a great stress buster and we have many soldiers who build model kits in their spare time.

Attached you will find a picture of some of the brigade staff’s handy-work.

Thanks again- we appreciate the support!

Mid-Hudson IPMS Scale Model Exhibition and Competion 2008 Show Report

The Hudson Valley Historical Miniatures Guild held their annual show at the Elks Lodge in Poughkeepsie, New York on 25 October 2008. The number of vendors was up from last year with several clubs sponsoring vendor tables for their members to exchange unwanted plastic for cash. The judging followed the usual IPMS practice with awards for first, second, third, and out of the box (OOB). The contest rules followed the recent IPMS trend that extends the no sweeps rule to include the OOB award, so there were lots of different individuals garnering awards. Though Saturday’s weather was a washout, the fall colors were still spectacular, making the drive an event in itself. The standout at this show was a very large scale snow speeder.
