Bulletin: December 2007

December Meeting: Friday, 12/21/2007 at the Bergen Beach Sports Complex!

by Bobby the Blue
November was a great meeting. The chance to win free goodies I the super raffle always has people coming out of the woodwork! We had 32 members and one guest bringing in 30+ models.

NOVEMBER MEETING!!!
CONTEST NIGHT, 4TH QUARTER 2007: This was the final installment of the annual contest. Provided your humble narrator has time to crunch the numbers by the December meeting, we should be finding out how people fared in their respective categories.

SUPER RAFFLE: This is everyone’s favorite activity of the year. With about 180 models in the Super Raffle year, one ticket for each, and about 100 prizes up for grabs, chances were pretty good you were winning something. This year we did something a little different, if no one claimed a prize, including absentees, that prize was put directly in tote Speicher box. No one can argue that the soldiers won’t be putting these hobby items to good use. Additionally, several members gave up parts of their haul in donations as well. It was a very benevolent evening!

You can see pics from each meeting on Gordon’s blog:

On the agenda: December
HOLIDAY DESSERTS: By the time you get this, we probably will have already had our Holiday Dinner at the Outback Steakhouse in Brooklyn on December 12th. But we will be having desserts for the regular December meeting taking place on the 21st. Feel free to bring in desserts and munchies and anything else you choose, including your significant other.
WE MEAN BUSINESS THEME CONTEST: Are you ready? It's finally time for…
WE MEAN BUSINESS!!!
“WE MEAN BUSINESS” will be a theme contest honoring the memory of founding member Bert Berg. He’s remembered fondly as being a businessman, first and foremost. With that in mind, the sponsors (Frank C, Russ H, Jimmy M, Frank T, and your humble narrator) are bringing a theme contest all about PRODUCT PLACEMENT to the BPMS in December. Does anything else scream out capitalism more than the Christmas Season? With that, we’re asking the members to build something showing product placement. It can be real, eg: a jumbo jet with some markings from some airline, a race-car with sponsor labels, or you can invent something. We encourage the use of imagination! Since we are in the beginning stages, we may yet come up with some special awards, let’s say, for ingenuity. If you have any questions, feel free to contact any of the sponsors, we’ll be happy to assist! We are also thinking of some special awards that may include the following: Funny Business, Monkey Business, Out of Business, Big Business, Small Business, Mom & Pop Business; Risky Business. Have fun with it!

Region 1 Update 12-07-07

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the delay in getting this out, but it's been the normally hectic fall season around here. It's hard to believe the year is winding down, and a new one getting ready on deck. Let's hope the new year is better than the current one. But enough of that, let's get to the news!!

First off, I'd like to thank IPMS Mid Hudson, and IPMS Bay Colony for hosting this years mini-meetings at their events. Both went well, and the minutes are attached to this document. I'd also like to thank the chapters and individuals that took time out of their show time to attend. It was good to see everyone, and once again I would call these a success. If anyone would like to comment, receive a clarification or has any questions regarding what we talked about, don't hesitate to contact me. I'll be happy to speak with you.

Rechartering is rapidly coming to a close. As this is written, Region 1 is about 70% complete in getting everyone good to go for 08. A few chapters only need to submit the $20.00 rechartering fee, and will be all set. One or two have some issues with membership requirements, but the majority are done, finished and complete. I should be getting a status update from Dick in a few days, and will be contacting the chapters directly that still have any outstanding issues. Everyone should be aware that as the process has been simplified, Dick will not be offering extensions to any chapter that isn't complete by 31 December. You're charter will be suspended at that time, so please don't say there wasn't a warning. If you think your chapter may have an issue, let me know, and I'll help get everything on track.

The IPMS Nationals in 2008 will be back on the east coast in Virginia Beach. I've heard from Charles Landrum, event chairman, who says plans are well underway for the event, and everyone should have a wonderful time. The facility while at the same location as in years past is completely new. They'll be setting aside some table for club displays, so if anyone is interested, contact Charles at CLandrum@earthlink.com for more information about that. The vendor room looks promising with 84 vendors already signed on. 300 of the 344 available tables have been reserved, so it looks like the worlds largest hobby shop will again have some of the coolest stuff available!! A BBQ at the Fighter Factory is being offered for a chance to have some god ole' southern cooking and some very cool warbirds. The hosts are looking for volunteers to help with everything from manning the registration table to security. An event of this magnitude always takes a good many hands to ensure a well run event. Please consider giving up a few hours to help out our hosts. Check out the event web site at http://www.ipmsusa2008.org for up to the minute information, event forms, or hotel info you'll need to get the most enjoyment out of your trip.

The next update will contain the latest Region 1 Event Calendar, and will go out before the close of the year. I'm waiting to hear back from someone about an event, and want to include it on the calendar, so I ask your patience.

It's not to early to start thinking about nominations for Region 1 Chapter of the Year, and Person of the Year. Nominations will open 1 January, and close 31 March, for award in the traditional manner at the Noreastcon banquet. As always, I know we have many worthy recipients out there. Why don't you honor a sparkplug in your chapter, and nominate he or she for Person of the Year? It's easy, and I guarantee if they win, the look on their face will be priceless!! What are you waiting for?

With that, I'll close this by wishing everyone and their families a very happy and healthy holiday season. Please remember our troops who are in far off places defending our freedoms with sacrifice and honor during this season. These fine men and women deserve far more than the measly check they get from our government each month for going in harms way, and our prayers for a safe return to their loved ones is a small offering in payment.

Please share this with the officers and members of your chapter.

Happy Holidays!!

Bulletin: November 2007

THE MINUTES
by Bobby the Blue
October was a good meeting, despite the road flooding. Regardless, we had 23 members and one guest bringing in 16 models and 15 works in progress.
OCTOBER MEETING!!!
NOMINATIONS FOR OFFICERS: See what happens when the Prez and the Veep are both unable to make the October meeting? They got re-elected to their posts! Ha! Take that!

WORK IN PROGRESS NIGHT: We had a good cluster of models in various stages of construction and some useful words of wisdom. WIP night is always very educational!

SWAP NIGHT: It went much better this time around. More people brought stuff to sell, and other people brought home a bunch of it.
You can see pics from each meeting on Gordon’s blog:
http://gmobile17.blogspot.com/
On the agenda: November
CONTEST NIGHT, 4TH QUARTER 2007: This is the final installment of the annual contest, so it’s your last chance to rake in some last minute votes before the final numbers for the year are crunched. Remember, this is the REGULAR contest. You know, the quarterly contest with six categories. Yeah, that one! Anything that hasn’t been in a regular quarterly contest will qualify.

SUPER RAFFLE: This is everyone’s favorite activity of the year. You got one super raffle ticket for each new model you brought in over the last year. We usually have over one hundred items in the super raffle so chances of winning are pretty good. If you have anything you’d like to donate for the super raffle, this is the meeting to do so! By the way, be sure your dues are paid up, or else you don’t get your raffle tickets.

November Meeting: Friday, 11/16/2007 at the Bergen Beach Sports Complex!

Theme contest alert!!!
It’s NOVEMBER!!!!
Before you know it December will be knocking on the door and the theme contest will be upon us! Remember, the December meeting is usually on the second Friday, which will be the 14th. Will you be ready? Now is a great time to get started for…
WE MEAN BUSINESS!!!
Speicher Report

OK - I finished all the photo shop work this afternoon and with the names you sent back, I should have our Christmas card to Speicher finished tonight. I’ll send it to you and Frank C for proofreading, if you don’t mind. I’ll just send you a compressed jpeg file. The original PowerPoint is approaching 16 MB. (Which is funny, ‘cause I deal in TB most of my professional life, but email being what it is, 16MB seems large.)

Region 1 Update 11-1-07

Hi gang,

Just a few quickies his time.

Art Loder reports the Noreastcon web site is up and going. All the info regarding the show will be posted here. Hotel, directions, categories, and of course all the latest info can be had at http://www.aloder.freeyellow.com/

The second Region 1 Mini-meeting will happen this weekend at Baycon. This one is for the Easterner's of the region. We had a great turnout at the Mid Hudson event, and reports from both will be distributed after Baycon. Of course everyone is invited to attend, and encouraged to bring a topic for discussion. Or just stop in and say Howdy!! It'll be very informal, no tux's please, and maybe even interesting. Hope to see you there.

One last thing, I received the attached document from Dick Montgomery. It isn't "official IPMS Business" or anything, but felt it noteworthy enough to pass along.

I told you this would be quick!! And as always, please share this information with the officers and members of your chapter.
