7/23/20 BPMS Zoom mini meeting report

Sixteen people joined the meeting. It was confirmed that Mosquitocon in Wayne and AMPS in Danbury have been cancelled for 2020. Nothing definite yet on the Hudson Valley show in Poughkeepsie. The news that Hobby Boss is releasing 1/32 scale A 26 Invader led to a discussion of other company's upcoming releases. It looks like they all decided to make the same kit. Speaking of the same kit, In case you missed the meeting we had a first for the Random Number Raffle. The winner won the kit he donated to the raffle. He got an alternate prize and the Titanic went back into storage. Don't worry, you'll see it again. We saw some interesting stencils for camouflage - stiff metal, flexible plastic, different patterns, different scales. They can produce nice paint jobs, but so can sponge fragments. We saw a whole lot of Works in Progress and completed kits: F15 E, F 100, Mig21, F22, F4 Phantom, Me 109z, M4A1, 1920 pattern RR Armored Car, Panther A, USS Massachusetts, Vosper, SS United States, Apollo/Soyuz and Apollo/LEM combinations. Really nice work. If you have time, post some photos to a "What are you working on" email string the group email address. The next meeting is June 30 at 8 pm. Invites to follow. See you then.

BPMS 07/16/2020 Zoom mini meeting report

A total of fourteen people attended the meeting. By coincidence, two guys who didn't join second session were replaced by two guys who had other commitments during the first session. The important thing is that we had enough people to make the raffle interesting. OK, not everybody can spare 80 minutes every Thursday night. Family obligations, work and actually building a kit can take-up a lot of time. But even a 10 minute "pop-in" is a good way to keep in touch and maybe share some model building wisdom. If you don't have a camera, you can phone it in. Now, back to the report. We discussed ways to clean resin parts prior to painting, removing masking residue without removing paint, priming models with commercial auto primer (properly thinned) and the performance of various acrylic metallic paints. Works in Progress included Intruder, Leduc 022, FW 191 and Kingfisher, to name a few. Two recently acquired F 14s and a Saunders Roe flying boat are sure to become Works in Progress soon. The next meeting is July 23 at 8 pm. Invites to follow. Hope to see you there.

7/9/20 BPMS Zoom mini-meeting report

Sixteen people attended the meeting, including a BPMS alum we haven't seen since he relocated many years ago. It was good to talk with him and see the work he's doing now. It made me think of all the members who left the area but haven't left the hobby. If you're in contact with an expatriate member, let them know about our virtual meetings. You can never hear too many decal disaster stories. Last night's stories focused on paint colors, paint thinners and paint alternatives. BK reported good results using nail polish thinned with lacquer thinner for car bodies. Aircraft and armor Work in Progress photos were shown. One of the guys found a new way to acquire kits, dumpster diving. He remembered to show us what he found. He forgot to tell us where he found them. Maybe it's in your neighborhood? Thanks to the generosity of members like JB we had another Random Number Raffle. The next meeting is July 16 at 8 pm. Invites will follow. See you there.

7/2/20 BPMS Zoom mini-meeting report

Eighteen people attended last night's meeting. Guys are saying it's getting harder to get new kits. Well, someone familiar with the industry reports Zvezda is up for sale. Think about it. Aftermarket decals, on the other hand, are plentiful. We saw some several nice aircraft and armor markings for 1/72 sale kits. Speaking of aftermarket, we saw 1/35 scale 3 D printed tool clamps and brackets for WW2 German armor. Thanks for sharing, J. and congratulations on winning the Random Number Raffle. There were WIP updates on several builds: Terminator, Sturmovik, E 581-4, F16 variants, FT 17 SPG and two Panthers. The Q&A session started with "What's a good color for tank tracks" and ended with "Who makes the best frozen pizza". Opinion is divided on both questions. The next meeting is Thursday, July 9 at 8pm, invites to follow. Hope you can make it. Have a safe 4th of July and resist the temptation to blow up any unfinished Theme Contest builds.
