PennCon 2012 - 15 September 2012

PennCon this year is on September 15, 2012.

This is the link to the PennCon contest web site:

This year's show is at the Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, PA. This is the link to their web site:

A correction to the travel estimate I provided at the July meeting - Google Maps indicates a driving time of 3 hours and 40 minutes from Bergen Beach. [I had added the time it takes me to drive from the meeting site to my house west of Philadelphia (about 3 hours) and from my house to Mechanicsburg, PA (the previous contest location) (about 2 hours). If you go directly on I-78, you save an hour and change.]

Central PA is beautiful in the fall and Gettysburg is less than an hour from Carlisle if a weekend road trip appeals to you.

BPMS Bulletin July, 2012

T H E
M I N U T E S
by Bobby the Blue

June was another great meeting. We had 29 members and 1 guest who brought in 24 models, of which 20 were for the theme contest despite the unbelievably bad traffic conditions. That’s dedication!

June Meeting

BBQ NIGHT: Food was ready on the early side so we made quick work of the business meeting so we could dig in while the food was still hot. Some yummy treats there! Thanks to the cooking staff, as well as the members who brought in extra goodies for the group.

THAT 70s THEME: It arrived and the members made a great showing of it. The bulk of the models on the tables were just for the theme.
First Place: Bob E. – Don Garlits & 426 hemi

First Place: Bob E. - Dan Garlits and Hemi 426
Second Place: Joe B. – Forgotten Prisoner
Third Place: Jeff E. – Angel Interceptor
HM
Frank C. – Huey
Russ H. – German Squadleader
Israel A. – Voyager

Special Awards:

On behalf of the sponsors, Hugh, Joe B, Tom K, James M, and your humble narrator, we’d like to thank everyone who built for our theme contest. The quality of the work was very good and made our job as judges VERY difficult. Thank you all for supporting our theme. And the group would also like to thank the sponsors, without whom these theme contests wouldn’t exist.

With this one out of the way, we can now look forward to THE END OF THE WORLD! (Find details HERE.)

On the agenda: JULY

THE QUEEN THEME: '52 - '12: It’s a theme night commemorating the Queen’s reign. Bring in anything relating to Britain from 1952 – 2012 to display. There will be separate tables for the theme, and please be prepared to say a couple words about your model for the group.

SWAP NIGHT: Bring in kits, accessories, etc. to sell or swap. It might be a good idea to bring a little extra cash as there is no tab at this bar!

1/1 Scale Paper Ford Mustang

Did you see the article in the Sunday NY Times Automobile Section about the full size scratch built 1969 Ford Mustang? It's on display through Sept 30 at the Ajderich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield Conn. Pass it on.

The End Of The World Theme Contest

The-End Theme

The End Of The World

Theme Contest
December 21, 2012

Will 12/21/2012 bring the end of the world?

Not likely, but we just happen to have a club meeting on the date that many are saying will be the end of days. What better way to see the world go out with a theme contest marking THE END OF THE WORLD?!?!

AIM: Build something that can be tied into THE END OF THE WORLD in some way, shape, or form. It's that easy to build for!

Examples: Martian War Machine, Space Shuttle from Armageddon, A nuclear missile, a zombie figure, etc, etc. If you can rationally tie it in to the theme, you’re good to go!

We are planning on some special certificates for depicting the following catastrophic events:
• Land
• Air
• Sea

Contest Sponsors:
• Jeff E
• Russ H
• Bobby P

Easy enough! Come to us with any questions. Have fun!
