Donations for IPMS Wounded Warriors Chapter

The Wounded Warriors POC, Dick Montgomery, got our first box of donations.

Attached is his thank you note.

Subject: Re: Donations for IPMS Wounded Warriors Chapter

Hugh,

The box of donated items from IPMS Brooklyn arrived today and they are exactly what is needed for the Warriors! Please thank your chapter members for their generosity and for the effort it took to get the materials together and get them shipped. Thanks to you as well since it was you who organized everything!

Our next meeting with the Warriors is on the 24th and the donated items will be turned over to them at that time. I'll also file the paperwork showing IPMS Brooklyn as the donor. A certificate will be sent to you by Ft. Sam Houston in about 4 to 6 weeks.
I'll see if I can get some digital images of some of the Warriors digging through the stash!

Request from Hugh

From Hugh A:
I'm working on a display of photos and other material, such as old newsletters or award certificates, for the anniversary luncheon in April. Anyone who would like to provide material can scan and send it to me at shuvlboy[at]gmail.com or hand it to me at the meetings in February, March, and April. The item should be light enough to be able to be affixed to a tri-fold display board, as used in science fairs. Thanks.

by Bobby Pokorny

January was a great meeting with an amazing showing to start up 2012. We had 30 members and no guests who brought in a 19 models to start the year with a BANG!

A special thank you to everyone who took the time to build for the theme contest, and especially to the sponsors, without whom we wouldn’t have these fun contests to build for!
40TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER: Here are the arrangements so far. We have a room at the 56th Fighter Squadron for Saturday, April 28. The cost, tax and tip, is around $30 per person. A cash bar will be available for those who want to have a drink. We were none too soon in making the arrangement. The room we used last time was already booked; however, there is another very nice room on the first floor which we will be able to use from 1pm to 5pm. The food will be available, buffet style, at 1:30 pm.
  • • Salad - Tossed garden salad or tomato mozzarella salad
  • • EntrĂ©e - Chicken marsala, or penne a la vodka, or sliced steak with mushroom
  • • Dessert - Cheesecake or chocolate mousse
  • • Unlimited coffee, tea, and soft drinks.
Please note that wives, girlfriends, and significant others are welcome and encouraged to come! We already have several signed up to come. Please let the officers know whether or not members’ guests are interested and at the next meeting. Thanks!

FLOYD BENNETT FIELD: The BPMS will forever hold a dear spot in our heart for one of our former homes, Floyd Bennett Field. We were updated that the Ryan Center is nearing completion and that there will be a grand opening of sort and group held volunteers who would be willing to represent the BPMS in a display. I’ve gotten word that this may unfold in OCTOBER. Details to come!

THAT 70s THEME: The details for June’s theme contest were unveiled and discussed with the group. Find out all about it HERE.

You can see pics from each meeting either at the Photo-Blog: http://gmobile17.blogspot.com/

On the agenda February

CONTEST NIGHT 1Q’12: Our first contest night is upon us! This is the first installment of the quarterly contest. It’s the usual six categories so bring in anything that hasn’t been in a quarterly contest, including entries in December’s theme contest. The numbers are crunched after the fourth contest in November, and announced in December.

SHOW US YOUR TOOL: Not nearly as vulgar as it sounds, this activity has been a long running BPMS tradition. Bring in something(s) that you put to use when building models that you think the group could benefit from learning about. It could be supplies, tools, or an adapted method. Feel free to bring in anything and be prepared to tell us a few words about what you have.

2012 MODEL PLEDGE: It seemed that we kept the concept entirely too loose for members tastes in the past so we tightened them up a little in 2011 and it was a success. Just bring in an unbuilt model between January and March 2012 to declare as your pledge model. Please have it finished for the OCTOBER MEETING, for a display. After October you may bring back your pledge for the November meeting for the last contest of the year. For your efforts you get an additional FIVE Super Raffle tickets for completing your pledge! Sweet! Easy enough!

A side note: Due to rising costs, soda will increase to $1 a can.

Our next meeting will be on
FEBRUARY 17, 2012
Same time, same place!

See you at the Bergen Beach Sports Complex!

That 70s Theme Contest - June 2012

June 15, 2012
The year 2012 marks FORTY FABULOUS YEARS OF BPMS!!!
What better way to honor this momentous occasion than with a theme contest celebrating the early years of the club! During the 70s the BPMS was formed, became IPMS Chartered, hosted the Big Apple Con 10/11/1975, NoreastCon 6 05/1977, and was active in bringing the Intrepid to NYC starting in 1978 (even though she didn’t arrive until the early 80s).

AIM: Build something that members would’ve built during the 70s. That means anything that was kitted up through 1979 is eligible. Simple. I would prefer if members keep mods down to what was possible in those days. I don’t want anyone breaking the bank on aftermarket resin and / or photo-etched parts, but mods with sheet plastic, putty, etc. are all acceptable. Aftermarket decals are also fine.

I am planning on some special certificates to commemorate the following:
• Air – Bert Berg
• Armor – Art Gerber
• Figure – Leon Kestenbaum
• Sea – Cap’n Bart Holmes
• Sci-Fi – Dave Cockrum
• Misc – Joe Turner
Contest Sponsors:

• Hugh Alcock
• Joe Bergman
• Tom Knoll
• James Maroney
• Bobby Pokorny

Easy enough! Come to us with any questions. Have fun!
