Region 1 Update 01-14-08

Greetings,
Here we are, the first Update for 2008, and a few things to mention. First off I hope everyone had great holidays, and Santa, Santo, Santu, or the mythological figure of your choice brought cool stuff to y'all!! I'll be going out of town for ten days starting 17 Jan, returning 26 Jan, and will only have limited e mail contact during this time. Please forgive any delays in getting back to anyone.

Rechartering is complete, and all 26 Region 1 chapters are good for another year. It seemed everyone had no problems getting the necessary items attended to, and all in good time. I appreciate the efforts everyone put into the process this year, and offer my thanks. I'll remind everyone to keep updating their fact sheets throughout the year, and sending me a copy of each edit. I forward those edits to Dick, who in turn updates your chapters information when received. It keeps your chapter's info current in the IPMS data base, and by being current allows you to only need to send off the payment next year, making rechartering a snap.

Attached you'll find the latest, greatest listing of all Approved 2008 events. If your chapter's event isn't listed it hasn't been approved yet. Or if I just flat out missed it, let me know!! I expect the fall scheduled events to be added shortly, with another updated list going out late spring.

While we're thinking about shows, I've been asked to reiterate the event approval process. So to refresh everyone's memory:
  1. Set a tentative event date with the facility. Have them write it in with pencil at this point.
  2. Contact the RC, (ME!!) to request the tentative date. IF requested date is open, or poses no conflicts with other events I approve it immediately.
  3. If further discussion is needed before approval, I'll get right back to you with any questions. I'll proceed as quickly as possible to work with you in order to get your date approved.
  4. Only when your event is RC Approved, go to IPMS Web site, under Member Services, pull up Event Registration Form. Fill out the form completely, checking off "RC Approved" box, and submit.
  5. Do not submit an event registration form without requesting approval first. Dick will only kick it back that will slow the process down considerably.
  6. Contact faculty and have them schedule in pen, the date is firm.
If there are any questions, please ask. I want everything to be smooth like a gravy sandwich, so if in doubt, ask!!

Everyone will bee seeing Noreastcon info being sent out by our hosts. I'll start the annual pleas by asking every Region 1 chapter to consider sponsoring a category at Noreastcon this year. If your chapter doesn't consider sponsorships, please consider Noreastcon. It's our regional, and our hosts work their butts off putting together an event. Please help them by sponsoring. And with mention of Noreastcon I'll also mention it's time to start putting you Region 1 Chapter of the Year, and Person of the Year nominations together, and send them my way. The cut off date for both nominations is March 15 this year. We all know people that should be nominated. Act now to make it a reality!!

With that being put out there, I'll end this. As always, please share this with the officers and members of your chapters!!

Noreastcon 2008 Hotel information

This just in from Art Loder. As we know the hotel is a little on the small side, it may be wise to make your reservations early.
Semper Fi
Doug

Dear Friends, I had a note from one of the Gang in Niagara Frontier that the Noreastcon 2008 Hotel had been sold out. Since the Hotel did the same thingto us last time, I asked Nick to check it out. It is not true that the Hotel is sold out as of this moment:

The Hotel has reserved all it's rooms for NOREASTCON 2008 until 30 days before the event. PRIOR TO 30 DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT, ONLY THOSE FOLKS MENTIONING THE "SCALE MODEL CONVENTION" OR THE "MODEL AIRPLANE CONVENTION " WILL BE SOLD ROOMS FOR THE CONVENTION NIGHTS [SORRY ARMOR GUYS, BUT JUST CONVEYING THE BASICS OF OUR HOBBY IS THE BEST WE CAN DO WITH CIVILIANS!].

AT 30 DAYS BEFORE THE EVENT, THEY OPEN RESERVATIONS SO THAT ANYONE CAN RESERVE. SO IF YOU GOT TURNED DOWN, PLEASE CALL BACK AND SAY THE MAGIC WORDS! PLEASE PASS THIS INFO ON TO YOUR CONTACTS! WE SOLD OUT THE HOTEL ONE OF THE NIGHTS LAST TIME, SO PLEASE DON'T WAIT TILL THE LAST MINUTE...

Below is a mailing I sent to a list based on Noreastcon 2004 Registration Form e-mail addresses. I got a lot of returns, but some did get through [although I dont know which ones!] If you would Cut and Paste it and e-mail it on to your contacts, it would be deeply appreciated!

Dear Friends,
Although we are still in our "Hunkered down for the Winter" mode and hopefully busy on our workbenches, it's time to begin to think about the 2008 Spring and Summer IPMS Events.

This Year the National will be in Virginia Beach in early August, so we should expect a great turnout from Region One. The Website for the IPMS Nationals in 2008 is:

But before we all go to the Beach, there is a Regional Convention to which we can take entries for a trial run. It's the 38th Annual IPMS Region One Convention: NOREASTCON 2008, to be held on the weekend of April 25-26 at the Holiday Inn Express in Schoharie, New York.

Please check out our Website at:
http://www.aloder.freeyellow.com/
We have the entire Hotel reserved until 30 days before the event, but please reserve rooms early. Please also mention the Scale Modelers' Convention when reserving!
We hope to see you in April!

Subject: Noreastcon 2008 Announcement

Dear Chapter Contact,
The winter is beginning to wind down and our thoughts here in the Albany area are on the upcoming 38th Region One Convention, NOREASTCON 2008.

With postal expenses making individual member mailing prohibitively expensive, this year we are counting more than ever before on the network of IPMS Chapter Contacts and their Chapters.

IPMS NENY is asking if you would consider doing two things:

First, please pass on our publicity e-mails to your members. They will be brief messages with the URL of the IPMS NENY Website [http://www.aloder.freeyellow.com/ ] included. All Registration forms and Contest Rules and paperwork are available there, as well as hotel information.

Second, we intend to make one postal mailing about the end of January to each Chapter in Region One and the nearer Chapters in Region Two. This will include printed versions of the material on the Website for those without Internet connection. I've asked Doug Hamilton and Glen Martin for your mailing addresses, but it will help get the ball rolling if you could reply directly to me with them.

Please help us make this event a success by passing these items on to your members.

We have the entire Schoharie Holiday Inn Express held for us until 30 days before the event.
Please mention the Scale Modeler's Convention when reserving your rooms.

Thank you for helping to make this a memorable and successful event!
