PHOTO ROSTER UPDATE

PHOTO ROSTER UPDATE: It’s time to update the BPMS photo roster and that includes each member’s phone number and e-mail address. A lot of club business happens via e-mail, so it’s helpful to know of any changes. We passed a roster around at the May meeting and will do so again in July. If you didn’t see the roster at the May meeting and won’t be at the July meeting, please send any changes to Hugh A. or Bobby P. If your picture was not in the first roster, see Hugh during a meeting to get your picture taken or send him a digital photo. Thanks.

Next Theme: It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Modeling Contest

“It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Modeling Contest”

Purpose: To get modelers to apply their skills to unfamiliar subjects.

Summary: Look over the kits you’ve built throughout the years and those in your kit stash. Most of us gravitate towards certain subjects, our favorites that we like to build year after year. Armor guys love tanks from WWI to the ones currently in the field. Aviation buffs build airplanes anywhere from the start of the 20th century right up to the latest fighter jets of the 21st. Sci-fi modelers often stick to their favorite genres: anime, Star Trek, Star Wars etc. Think about what subjects you love to buy and build.

Now, for this theme contest, do exactly the opposite.

If you love armor, build a biplane.
Love sci-fi? Make a WWII tank.
Enjoy building Vietnam era Phantoms? How about a dinosaur? Or maybe a spaceship?

The goal is to get us to build outside our comfort zone; to apply the skills we’ve learned over the years while building our favorite subjects to model kits we ordinarily would never consider building.

Guidelines: You may build anything you wish, any scale and subject as long as it’s not among your favorite subjects. When you submit your entry, please write next to it what is your favorite modeling category (or categories).

Bulletin: June 2009

by Bobby P.
May was another cramped and busy meeting. Now that warm weather has arrived, the neighborhood kids should be more interested in outdoor activities at the BBSC than indoor games. Even in tight quarters we were able to fit in 28 members and 1 guest who brought in 24 models. Let’s keep those numbers up!

May Meeting
CONTEST NIGHT 2Q09: We had a nice selection of models on the tables for the contest. Nice job guys!

CONTEST SKILLS DISCUSSION: Despite technical difficulties Hugh Alcock was able to discuss how to build for IPMS contests and WIN! Sorry about hat Hugh, but I’m glad you were able to get it done anyway!

NEW MEMBER: We voted in another new member for 2009. Raymond Whitton joins the fold. Congratulations!

You can see pics from each meeting either at the Club Website or on Gordon’s blog: http://gmobile17.blogspot.com/

On the agenda: June
PIZZA NIGHT:
This is everyone’s favorite activity. Just bring your appetite and you’re set. There are a couple conditions, however, your dues must be paid up and no guests please.

IT’S A MAD MAD MAD MAD MODELING CONTEST: The theme contest sponsored by our master awards maker, Ed Dietrich, is finally upon us. Find all the details here:
http://bpmsclub.blogspot.com/2009/01/next-theme-its-mad-mad-mad-mad-modeling.html

TAKE A PART / LEAVE A PART: Gordon will continue to bring in the big basin for “Take a Part / Leave a Part.” If you don’t want to bring home your spare parts, feel free to toss them into the big bin! Gordon will bring the club parts box back for each meeting for people to add or take away from. This is something we can all benefit from!

GENERATING MONEY: The club will continue to sell magnets and patches and run raffles and to generate some extra money. Can we count on you to help fund various activities and sponsorships?
The next meeting will be on June 19th, 2009!

A note from Gordon

Hi everyone,

Those who don't know, I had been rather occupied due to major transition of my position at work during April. Ironically, I would had been able to update April's photos if it wasn't for some guy that struck my car in May. That's right, I got into a car accident and had to devote my time and money filing a claim with the insurance company of the guy that hit me. It's been a month and I'm still chasing after his insurance company to get my car repair. I'm getting rather sick of them docking me... where's my money?!

Anyway, good news is that the BPMS Photo Blog is now up to date. All photos for April's meeting are posted. May's remaining photos is scheduled to post automatically daily.

See the BPMS Photo Blog at
http://gmobile17.blogspot.com

All postings are tagged with the modeler's name so you can find your model(s) easily.

Best regards,
G
