NYC FLEET WEEK UPDATE!!!

Thought I would share that Fleet Week NYC is a little bit different this year. Info is not the most clear, but here is what I have found:

1) They are moving the date from the traditional Memorial Day weekend slot to coincide with July 4th. So: July 3rd - 8th

2) It will coincide with Sail4th 250. That means we will have ~30 tall ships from around the world visiting NYC Harbor. Maybe the largest gathering ever!

3) I’ve read somewhere, but hard to verify, that a number of foreign navies will send active ships. Maybe 40!

4) Blue Angels and an airshow(?) will be in the harbor.

We should be discussing this during a meeting very soon. A local business that I am familiar with pitched an assortment of shirts with BPMS logos on them. Prices will be as follows:

Beginning in January meeting, from 5 to 7PM, members can bring a model to work on or get an opinion or advice with a sticking point.

 For the past year or so the meeting room has been opened to us at 5PM for those wishing to arrive early and “hangout and talk models.”

 Thanks to an idea brought to the club by member Eric E., who asked can we work on a kit during that time? President-elect Kevin K. started putting the pieces together and Facilities Director, Vinny R., has given the OK, providing the tables are protected, to bring your and work on your current model.

 Let’s see the kit your building pre-meeting from 5 to 7PM!

We want to make you aware that Phishing scams are on the rise again.   One of them that we are aware of is an email that appears to be from "IPMS/USA", and states that one of our officers, or local chapters needs you to "handle an urgent payment for them."  We will never ask you to personally pay for something for our organization.   

These emails look very real, use our real names and titles, but usually you can double check the actual sender email and see that they are not from our email address but rather another address.  

We get several notices a week from members that receive them and are concerned.  We can tell you; the organization is in good financial shape, and certainly doesn't need you to send us anything other than your annual membership dues. Thank you!

March In-house Meeting - "Green" Night + Decal swaps

 Another full house was in attendance for Green Night + the Decal swap. In addition the membership got the news that for a 2nd year in a row, the BPMS was named R1 Chapter of the Year!

Due to privacy regulations on credit card data, IPMS/USA cannot accept credit card payments over the phone, by mail, or via email or text message. We want your data to remain private and safe, so we can only use payment processes that are encrypted and don’t share card data with us. 

You can make any payments to IPMS/USA in the following ways:

1. Pay online at http://myipmsusa.org when paying for memberships, convention registrations, or other items from the myipmsusa.org website.

2. Pay using your PayPal account at PayPal.com. Make your payment to Treasurer@ipmsusa.org and include what it is for in the comments section.

3. Pay by mailing a check to IPMS/USA, PO BOX 1411, Riverview FL 33568-1411 noting what the payment is for.

Please DO NOT send your credit card number or other credit card information via email. US mail, text or voice mail to IPMS/USA. We will have to delete or destroy the information immediately upon receipt, and we are not able to process the transaction.

The Rumor Mill

There was a post seen on one of the Facebook Figure Models groups that there will be no JerseyFest for 2024.  The person that saw the post, also came back the next day and reported that the post making the announcement was gone.  So, he’s not sure what’s going on.  Your intrepid editor looked into it and saw that the JerseyFest FB Group hasn’t been updated since Nov. of 2023, and the webpage (jerseyfestfair.com) is completely gone. I’m afraid JerseyFest is most likely no more… unless someone steps up for the save.

Members start showing up around 6:00 PM

We will get back into the swing of things with the following activities:

·         Decal Swap Night: Bring Decals to sell or trade or even give away. You might want to bring some money in case that sheet you’ve looking for shows up!

·         Favorite Model: Bring in your favorite model right now, built or unbuilt and be prepared to tell the group a couple words why you chose it. 

If you have models from the raffles, please bring them in for the exchange!

I hope everyone is having a happy and HEALTHY 2022! Saying that things didn’t go as expected in 2021 would be a huge understatement, with multiple fasle starts, so here’s looking forward to getting back to normal! We have much to thank Vinny Rosati for, he got the BBSC to commit to having us back on our usual nght, except for April, since it’s Easter weekend. So we hope to see everyone on APRIL 22^nd at the BBSC, Same time, same place! Contact other members! Tell your friends!
