 On the agenda: February

Contest Night: This is the first quarter of the BPMS Annual contest. Feel free to bring in any model that hasn’t already been in a quarter contest, and you are encouraged to bring in your entries from the last theme contest!

SHOW US YOUR TOOL: This vulgar sounding activity is more of a simple BPMS tradition. Once a year we ask members to come to the meeting prepared with a tool or method they like to use to make their model building life easier. It could be a new product, something you made yourself, or a different way of tackling a problem. It’s up to you. Please be prepared to tell the group a couple words about what you have.

2016 Model Pledge: A new year means new pledges. Bring in an unbuilt model between January and APRIL 2016 to declare as your pledge model. Please have it finished for OCTOBER 2016, for a display. After October you may bring back your pledge for the November meeting for the last contest of the year. For your efforts you get an additional FIVE Super Raffle tickets for completing your pledge! Sweet! Easy enough!

BASIC BLACK THEME: We have the June theme contest. Click HERE for details.

Thanks to everyone who made donations! Joe Bergman and Ed Johnson each had in the mid thirties this year, about 1/3 of the tickets! Joe challenged the group to hit 300 tixx in 2016. Let’s do it!

April was another grand BPMS meeting. We had 26 members and 1 guest who brought in 12 models and 14 WiPs for a busy meeting.

April Meeting

BILL MURPHY: It was Bill’s final meeting so we threw him a little going away party. Vinny had a special cake made up, and we also have doughnuts and coffe . Bon Voyage, Sir!

WORK IN PROGRESS NIGHT: We had more than a dozen models in progress on display. Members told us about what they were working on and how they were going about it. Educational!

TROOP SUPPORT: With Hugh going into retirement Jimmy Tissot volunteered to take over the role as Wounded Warrior Project liaison. He’s gotten reports regarding what models and supplies would be most useful. As always, donations of any models and supplies are welcome. In addition, Jimmy was hoping to find some more support amongst the group for a raffle to benefit the troops. The idea would be to have a raffle in October of items donated by members and tickets would be $2 each. If donations are numerous enough, we ight break it up into TWO raffles. We’ll see. Don Illjes also found out more about a Wounded Warrior outpost at Fort Hamilton. More details to come.

RAFFLE: We had a monthly raffle with an assortment of seven items. We had something for everyone’s tastes.

PLEDGE: April was the last month to make a declaration. Now it’s time to get to work on those pledges. October will be here fast!

On the agenda: May
CONTEST NIGHT - 2Q13: Time flies. We’re already up to the second installment of the BPMS annual contest. Bring in your good work and, place it in the correct category, fill out the proper paperwork and, hopefully, collect some more votes! The numbers for the four parts are accumulated for the December meeting.

PARTS BOX NIGHT: Every modeler has a stash of leftover parts. Why not bring them in to share with the group?

Our next meeting will be on

February was another great BPMS meeting. We had 25 members and one guest who brought in 36 models for an impressive first contest of the year!

February Meeting
CONTEST NIGHT: We had our first installment of the BPMS annual contest. Didn’t we just hand out last years’ awards? Yep! Now we start all over with a clean slate! There was some gorgeous work on the tables for fierce competition.

SHOW US YOUR TOOL: This vulgar sounding activity is more of a simple BPMS tradition. Several members had some very useful tools, supplies, and ideas. The group was treated to an educational evening. THANK YOU to all the guys who brought in something to share.

THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT: The club honored Don Illjes for his years of service as BPMS President. Thank you for a job well done, sir!

Don, right, is presented with a plaque by Frank Tripoli

TROOP SUPPORT: With Hugh going into retirement Jimmy Tissot volunteered to take over the role as Wounded Warrior Project liaison. Thanks!

PHOTO ROSTER: Hugh can provide the files and write up the process I use in PowerPoint and PhotoManager to put the pages together. Can anyone take this job over? Contact Bobby or Jeff at the meeting.

MOSQUITOCON: We got a request to sponsor a trophy package. However, due to problems members had last year getting the awards they won at the show the group voted against sponsoring this time around.

On the agenda: March
DECAL SWAP NIGHT: Pretty simple, bring in decals to trade, sell or just giveaway. I think the club has a communal decal box somewhere. You never know what markings you might find!

FAVORITE MODEL: Every modeler has that kit he LOVES. Built or unbuilt, bring it and to show the group and tell us why you love it!

For your efforts you get an additional FIVE Super Raffle tickets for completing your pledge! Sweet! Easy enough!

REGARDING TROOP SUPPORT
A few words from Hugh –
I need to be more engaged on the planning for our new retirement home, as well as continuing to spruce up the house to better entice potential buyers. This means that modeling has to take a back seat. That said, it's time to ask for volunteer(s) to take over:
  1. the Wounded Warrior support, or, perhaps to ask the club if they still want to continue that effort.
  2. The Photo Roster updates. I can provide the files and write up the process I use in PowerPoint and PhotoManager to put the pages together.
I should be able to make at least one or more meetings before I head South, but that depends on when the house sells.
Take care, ~ Hugh Alcock

April was another great meeting. We had 29 members and 0 guests who brought in 31 models, of which 14 were WIPs, to share with the group.

April Meeting
LIGHTING UP MODELS CLINIC: Hosted by Joe Bergman and President Don Illjes, we were in for a treat! These two gents filled us in on the world of Light Emitting Diodes, and some very smart ways to make your models more fun to the beholder, but not breaking the bank in the process. Thanks guys!

WORK IN PROGRESS NIGHT: Members came in with some 14 WIPs. We got to see some nice work in various stages of completion. The members told us a few words about their work. If you listened, there were some pearls of wisdom shared!

TROPHY PACKAGES: We voted to sponsor trophy packages for this year’s Noreastcon and Nationals.

40TH ANNIVERSARY LUNCHEON: Were you there? We had about 28 members and loved ones together at The 56th Fighter Group on Saturday, April 28. Fine food, good friends, and a perfect backdrop meant we had an amazing time. Thanks to all the members who helped out with the set-up, and arrangements. Thanks to those who were able to send us on short trips down memory lane. Of course, thanks to all the members and their better halves who came to share this special occasion. The next thought is, why do we wait ten years to have these?

Again, thank you to everyone involved in the big day!

THAT 70s THEME: It’ll be here sooner than you think! Are you ready for it? Find out all about this theme contest HERE.

On the agenda: APRIL
PARTS BOX: Do you have spare parts sitting around? No idea what to do with them? Bring them in! Let the members have at it. You never know, your junk might be another’s treasure!

CONTEST NIGHT: this will be the second installment of the BPMS annual contest. So just bring in your work that has NOT been to a quarterly contest, fill out the papers for it and compete. That simple! I will compile the votes from the four contests for the awards meeting in DECEMBER.

THE MINUTES
January was a good month. We had 26 members and 2 guests who brought in 17 models, mostly for the theme contest. A fine start to the New Year!

January Meeting

KIT SALE NIGHT: Kits were bought and sold. Simplicity!!

SPONSOR: Some members along with some club backing will be sponsoring a trophy package at Mosquitocon in the name of recently deceased long-time member and one of the founders of the BPMS, Joe Turner.

MODEL PLEDGE: We got a good number of members signing up for the 2011 Model Pledge. Will you join in the fun? More details below.

You can see pics from each meeting either at the Club Website or on the Photo-Blog: http://gmobile17.blogspot.com/

CONTEST NIGHT 1Q2011: This will be the first installment of the BPMS quarterly contests. You can bring in something that hasn’t been to a quarterly contest, including anything that might’ve been newly built for December’s theme contest. Categories will be set up on the tables and please be sure to fill out the proper contest paperwork for your entry.

THE TWILIGHT ZONE THEME: We had three sponsors come forward for the June theme contest. More details HERE.

2011 MODEL PLEDGE: It seems that we kept the concept entirely too loose for members tastes last year so we’re tightening them up a little in 2011. Please bring in an unbuilt model between January and March to declare as your pledge model. Please have it finished for the OCTOBER MEETING for a display. In between there will be one WIP night, which would be nice to show us your progress (April). After October you may bring back your pledge to the November meeting for the last contest of the year. For your efforts you get an additional FIVE Super Raffle tickets for completing your pledge! Sweet! Easy enough? Now go have fun with it!

THE MINUTES
by Bobby the Blue

August was a good month. We had 23 members and one guest who brought in 21 models. Pizza night bring the members out of the woodwork!

August Meeting
PIZZA NIGHT: How many did you eat? We had some missing members so there was more than enough to go around, even with ME being present! There’s nothing like Brooklyn pizza!

CONTEST NIGHT 3Q10: We had a nice showing of great work for the contest. The next and FINAL contest night will be in NOVEMBER.

NEW MEMBER: Did you see the big gun in the table? That was scratch-built by our newest member Jimmy Baumert. Some great work! Welcome to the fold!

You can see pics from each meeting either at the Club Website or on Gordon’s blog: http://gmobile17.blogspot.com/

On the agenda: September
SWAP NIGHT: Pretty self-explanatory – bring in models to swap or sell. It’s usually a good idea to bring some cash. You never know what might be up for sale and there’s no tab at this bar!

HELL(ER) OF A THEME NIGHT: Hugh had this idea for a HELLER theme night. It’s not a contest, just a night to bring in and display your Heller Models. Completed would be a preference, but if you have some remarkable Heller kit you’d like to show still in the box, hey, why not? Have fun with it!

MODEL PLEDGE: Confused? That’s okay. Just bring in your completed model pledge on or before the November meeting in order to qualify for the extra Super Raffle tickets. It’s that easy! Be sure to let Jeff or me know that you DID bring it in, okay? Thanks!

Our next meeting will be on September 17, 2010
