BPMS in Virginia

BPMS is being well represented at the Nats in Va. A handful of members went down to represent the group, and to enter models into their favorite categories. More news when they get back!  :)

We also sponsored two categories -

BPMS Sponsors IPMS/USA Winners!

As is known to most members, the BPMS raised enough member donations to sponsor not one, but two categories. In all fairness to those that donated, we thought you would like to see who won our awards.

BPMS Zoom Mini Meeting Report: Thursday, Sept 2, 2021

Twelve lucky people attended the meeting. October looks to be busy, with shows at Freeport on the 2nd, Southbury on the 1st & 2nd and Poughkeepsie on the 23rd. Bob K reports Round 2 is coming out with a Garbage Truck (will aftermarket garbage be available?). Check their website for pictures. In progress and completed work included: King Tiger, P.180 Avanti (here's where luck comes in - if you weren't at the meeting, you'll never see the well-appointed interior of this model), XF4-U conversion , Houndstooth, Tiger 1, Ki-79, VW Bug Coupe de Ville conversion, B-25, FW 127 turboprop, Horton 7, Tornado and F-5E. Acquisitions (full disclosure, some items were found in long forgotten storage areas) included: RF 8 Aerosan, Convair Manned Observation Satellite, M1-A1 Abrams, Bell X-1B, Mercedes, Kettenkraftrad and Italian armored car. Paint tip from Vaughn, Testors Gloss Black enamel paint can be used to eliminate "steps" at joints. Paint, let dry for 24 hours, sand, repeat as necessary. Only works for steps, not for gaps. This week's topic was - Why are you building what you're building now? Many reasons were given: wanted to build something different, wanted to use certain deals, inspired by the box art, easy assembly, latest acquisition, show technical development of an object over time. That led to a discussion on differences among Canadian, Danish and Norwegian F-104s, a brief history of conformal tanks and a comparison of the T-38 and the F-5. Next meeting is 9/9/21 at 8 pm. invites to follow. Hope to see you there. Do something relaxing for Labor day.

OCTOBER was a good meeting. Despite traffic issues we had 26 members and one guest who brought in 19 models, of which a good portion were pledges.

October Meeting

NOMINATIONS: Prez Gordon and Veep Joe put in their two years of service so it was time for a change. Our new elected officers are Joe Bergman as BPMS President and Bob Elpey as Vice-President. Congrats gents! We look forward to your administrations!

MODEL PLEDGES: Several members had their pledges ready for display and discussion at the meeting. Everyone who came in with a completed pledge will have an additional FIVE tickets for the November Super Raffle!

HVHMG 2016: The BPMS will be sponsored the Award For Best Aircraft at the IPMS Mid-Hudson Show. The show was on October 22 at the Elks Club Lodge in Poughkeepsie, NY. See hvhmg.org for details.

Holiday Luncheon: While it might be early to put in a reservation, it’s never too early to save the date. The group agreed to return to:
Nora’s Park Bench Café
3019 Quentin Rd
Brooklyn, NY 11234
718-376-0033
on Saturday, December 3, around noon.

Raffle: We had quite a sizable raffle this month. Since November is the SUPER RAFFLE, we’ll suspend this activity until December or January.

On the agenda: November

Contest Night – 4th Qtr 2016: This is the final installment of the quarterly BPMS Annual Contest so it is your last chance to try to rack up some votes for 2016. Pledge models are welcome as well as anything you haven’t already entered into a contest previously.

Super Raffle: This is the reason why you must fill out your paperwork at each meeting. For every new model you brought in over the course of the year you get ONE SUPER RAFFLE TICKET. If you completed your pledge model you get an additional FIVE super raffle tickets. You cannot buy tickets for this raffle. You must earn them! The more you build, the more tixx you get. We’ve been buying items for the Super Raffle all year, but if you would like to donate anything, feel free to do so! Who built the most in 2016? I’ll announce the name at the meeting.

SEPTEMBER was a light meeting. The traffic was pretty rough, so it might’ve been a factor. We had 20 members and no guests who brought in 16 models.

September Meeting

BASIC SKILLS: Joe Bergman and Joe Barrett gave the group some very useful pointers on early stage building and priming despite the lack of time. Thanks guys!

New Member: Tom Govia attended three meetings and showed us some armor he built so voted him into The Club. Welcome to the fold!

HVHMG 2016: The BPMS will be sponsoring the Award For Best Aircraft at the IPMS Mid-Hudson Show. The show will be on October 22 at the Elks Club Lodge in Poughkeepsie, NY. See hvhmg.org for details.

MAY was another light month, thanks to the changed meeting date, weather and bad traffic. We had 15 members and one guest who brought in 15 models mostly for the quarterly contest.

May Meeting

CONTEST NIGHT-2Q15: If you were one of the members who made it to the meeting you had an excellent opportunity to rake in some votes as entries were light. We had members tell us a few words about their models at the end of the meeting.

PARTS BOX: I can’t say that I saw any parts action going on, but the light showing probably had much to do that that.

NOREASTCON: The IPMS regional show was a topic of discussion.

RAFFLE: We had a raffle with a fine assortment of kits. We’ll likely be having monthly raffles for the foreseeable future.

On the agenda: JUNE

BASIC BLACK THEME: It’s finally upon us! Click HERE for full details. We’ll also be looking for a theme and sponsors for DECEMBER.

BBQ Night: Summer is here and so is the BPMS BBQ. All the components have been going up in price, so we’re looking at $10 per person to chow down. The club will provide hot dogs, burgers, salads and soft drinks. If you would like to donate anything for the meal, feel free to do so. Thanks in advance.

CT Yankee modeling event info

From the email:

Hope your new year is off to a great start!

The CT Yankee IPMS club is co-hosting a modeling event at HobbyTown in Fairfield on January 31.

HobbyTown hosts our monthly club meetings and we're planning this event to get more people excited about modeling, including the kids (the club helps with two make-n-take events each year), help build store traffic and generate interest in club activities. This is a new approach and we're hopeful that it will be successful.

I've attached a file with more information. Please forward it along to your club members and we hope you and the others can visit the store for this event. If you're interested in developing a similar program, please let us know and we will be happy to share our experience with you.

Happy modeling!

President, CT Yankee IPMS

August was full meeting. Nothing brings members to the meeting like free pizza! We had 22 members and no guests who brought in 25 models.

August Meeting

CONTEST NIGHT 3Q14: The third installment of the annual contest is in the books. We had an extraordinary showing of good work on the tables and the competition was fierce!  Each vote puts you closer to being the first winner of the FRANK TRIPOLI AWARD, for the member who gathers the most votes during the year.

pIZZA NIGHT: Everyone loves a delicious tradition. Every August brings the BPMS PIZZA NIGHT! The group brought their appetites as we made fast work of the dozen pies.

IPMS NATIONALS: Some of the members who attended the IPMS Nationals gave a run-down of the show.

RAFFLE: We had a monthly raffle with a large assortment of items. We’ll probably have another raffle in September depending on time.

On the agenda: September

FLESH TONES & EYEBALLS: The greatest challenges people name when painting figures would be flesh tones and eyeballs. Joe B. and your humble narrator will each discuss our approaches to deal with these aspects of the hobby. We cordially invite any members who would like to contribute to prepare a couple words on the subject to share with the group during the meeting.

BPMS BULLETIN: March 2014

T h e

M i n u t e s

by Bobby B2 Blue Pokorny

February felt like a strangely light meeting, yet we had better numbers than January. We had 23 members and no guests who brought in 26 models for the first contest of 2014.

February Meeting

WOUNDED WARRIORS: We already got a confirmation for the donation that the club made in the name of Frank Tripoli.

Contest NIGHT: This was the first quarter of the BPMS Annual contest. We had an impressive display of talent on the tables. We’d love to see more for the second quarter.

SHOW US YOUR TOOL: This vulgar sounding activity is more of a simple BPMS tradition. Once a year we ask members to come to the meeting prepared with a tool or method they like to use to make their model building life easier. We only had a hand full of members who remembered to bring in items, but it was useful nonetheless.

Model Talk: Each member told us a couple words about the models that were brought in.

TROPHIES: We got a couple requests for money for trophy packages but the group voted them both down.

2014 Model Pledge: It’s another year! Have you chosen something to build by OCTOBER so you can ear FIVE extra super raffle tickets? We’re still making the list.  Details below.

RAFFLE: We had a nice assortment of kits, books, and supplies up for raffle. We’re accepting donations.

TROOP SUPPORT: With Hugh in retirement Jimmy Tissot volunteered to take over the role as Wounded Warrior Project liaison. He’s gotten reports regarding what models and supplies would be most useful. He was recently advised of a hub to ship to closer to home, so that’s good. As always, donations of any models and supplies are welcome.

PHOTO ROSTER: Hugh can provide the files and write up the process I use in PowerPoint and PhotoManager to put the pages together. Can anyone take this job over? Hello? Anyone? Contact Bobby or Jeff at the meeting.

On the agenda: March

FAV MODEL: We all have a favorite model. It might change, or remain the same. We are asking you to bring your fav model, built or unbuilt, and be prepared to tell the group why it’s your favorite.

DECAL SWAP NIGHT: Bring in decals to swap or sell. You may want to bring some case. You never know if that sheet you always wanted might show up!

RAFFLE: We may have a monthly raffle with an assortment of items depending on time.
