October 16, 2026, BPMS Inhouse Meeting!

Where has the year gone? It’s already OCTOBER so let’s see what’s cooking!

Model Pledges: You declared your pledge model earlier this year. Bring your model, complete or not to this meeting. Of course, completed pledges earn an additional FIVE Super Raffle Tickets.

Spooky Model Night: It IS October. So if you don’t have a pledge (or even if you do) why not bring in something that can be considered spooky. Eg: Obvious -  Dracula or The Mummy. Less Obvious – F-4 Phantom

Officer Nominations: Two years are up for the guys at the top seats. Who will we select next?

Holiday Luncheon: During the September Meeting  Russ reported that WHEELER'S penciled us in for December 5. We will continue to iron out details for the event.

Golden Age of American Sci-Fi Theme Contest: 12/18/2026 is coming quickly! Are you being yet?

Club Group Build 2027: Julio pitched the idea of the group building the same robot kit, with everyone having the freedom to customize as they like.  The group seemed very interested so we will iron out those details in the coming months. The final outcome will likely be the activity for Sept, 2027.

Meeting Date: September 16, 2026
Members start showing up by 5PM to set up.
Feel free to come early and hang-out!

BPMS Zoom Mini Meeting Report: 03/24/26

Discussion Topic: Scribing, and dealing with mistakes

The sixteen people in attendance heard Mark confirm that BPMS was the IPMS Region 1 Chapter of the Year for the third year in a row, something no other chapter has done, to the best of his knowledge. More good news, our own Julio L was named Region 1 Member of the Year. Congratulations all around.

Several BPMS members were among the 60 or so modelers at last Saturday's Japan Village group build. Photos are on the BPMS Facebook page.

Replicon is Saturday, March 28 at the Freeport Recreation Center in Long Island and ValleyCon is Sunday, March 29 in Chicopee, MA. Whichever one you attend, take photos for the people stuck at home.

Lou reports Border Models' 1/35 He-111 and Dragon's 1/48 Bf-109 E4 are available. Not surprisingly, Jimmy has already acquired the 109 and he gave us an impromptu in box review - 3D printed engine (with piping and wiring), single piece rear fuselage, different colored sprue. It comes in a plastic box with a cardboard sleeve, in case you're interested.

We saw Vaughn's F-105, Kevin's Gamora and Medusa busts (Medusa is mounted on a wedding cake pillar), Mark's Goliath (he tried AK quick gen paint for the figures) and Porsche 935 (he stripped the wrinkled paint from the body by soaking it in isopropyl alcohol), Angelo's World War Toons Panther and Egg Plane Osprey, Russ' Huey Cobra and Vigilante and Gil's 3D printed RDA Helicopter (from Avatar). An Ornithopter (from Dune) and VMFA 232 decals were also acquired.

This week's tool was from Amazon, not the Dollar Store. It's a set of flexible metal scribing templates from Hasegawa. Very useful for scribing geometric shapes.

We use various tools for scribing: the back of a hobby blade (#11or #12 or #22), a model company's scriber (like Tamiya's), a model tool company's scriber (too many to name), an awl, a wood chisel (for larger scale models), carbide scriber, old dental tools, and micro saws.  "Official" scribing guide tape is available but label maker tape, flexible rulers, and masking tape work too. Kevin has used a coat of UV curing resin to fix scribing mistakes, and Michael C used a thin layer of Nara air hardening clay (available at Hobby Lobby), to fix mistakes. Just remember to sand it before painting. Simon has used Mr. Surfacer 1000 and Tamiya's Surface Primer. Even though we use different tools and different techniques everyone agrees the key to successful scribing is to work slowly and carefully.
The next meeting is Tuesday, 3/31/26 at 7:30 pm. Invites to follow. Hope to see you there. Or in Freeport. Or in Chicopee.

New BPMS Benefit

New BPMS Benefit

Beginning in January meeting, from 5 to 7PM, members can bring a model to work on or get an opinion or advice with a sticking point.

For the past year or so the meeting room has been opened to us at 5PM for those wishing to arrive early and “hangout and talk models.”

Thanks to an idea brought to the club by member Eric E., who asked can we work on a kit during that time? President-elect Kevin K. started putting the pieces together and Facilities Director, Vinny R., has given the OK, providing the tables are protected, to bring your and work on your current model.

Let’s see the kit your building pre-meeting from 5 to 7PM!

Next event happening at BrookLAN 10/12/2024

Here are the details for the next model event happening in October, so they're down on paper. Sorry if the formatting is weird. The event is set up by SiegNuYork.

Date and Time:
October 12th, 2024
From 2pm until 6pm.

Location:
BrookLAN
339 Troutman Street
Brooklyn, NY 11237

Admission:
$10 Ticket Fee (only if you want to participate in the class or sit in the back and build models with everyone) You can get tickets at the door or get them online by clicking this link. Event details are also on there.

Public Transportation:
The absolute closest train is the L train to Jefferson Street. From there, it’s about a block and a half walk to get to the location. Alternatively, you can take the M train to Central Ave, however, you will have yourself about a 20 minute walk.

Details:

At this event, if you have someone that’s never built a Gundam mode before and is interested in learning how to, we’ll be holding a beginners class on this. The class should be about an hour long using a simple model that you can take home with you. If you're not participating in the class and just want to chill out in the back and build some models with every one, you can do that as well. Please let me know if you're interested in participating in the class. Also, if you have a model you'd like to show off and display for the event, feel free to bring something to share with everyone!

We’ll have a vendor there on-site (PopCurator) selling some stuff from Gundam models to figures with flash sales and deals happening all throughout the day and we’ll also be doing $1 raffles every hour until the end of the event.

For those that don’t know, BrookLAN could be classified as an eSports Bar on first glance but it’s a bit more than that. They have plenty of PCs and video game set ups available for rent by the hour, a full bar with some really good food and drinks available. The location itself is highly focused on gaming of different varietys, whether it tabletop, trading card games, video games and anything else you could think of, so that’s majority of what you will be seeing on the screens there are from different live streams to even tournaments if they’re taking place. They're also recognized for hosting major gaming tournament, either for popular video games, card games and even tabletops when they do happen.

If there’s any questions about things, feel free to ask, more than happy to answer any and all questions!

Gundam Group Build in Brooklyn: August 3rd, 2024

From Julio:

Yes, there is another event however, this wasn’t one organized by myself but by Richie in the Sieg Zeon group. I just helped him hash out the details with the location and checked the place out in person with him to meet management.

Some details:
August 3rd, 2024
Starts at 2pm until 6pm

Location: BrookLAN
339 Troutman Street
Brooklyn, NY 11237

The place is almost like an Internet cafe. I’ve known them for hosting major gaming tournaments either with video games or table top/ card games. There will be a vendor there selling a few Gundam models. Like any other build events, it’s bring your own stuff (or buy something from there if it’s available) and do the usual sit down, build a model, talk with some people if you want to.

We’ll also be doing $1 raffles there, with a few Gundam models to give away. They have a website if you want to check it out: https://www.brooklan.com/ They also have a full bar at the front and serve food as well. I’m pretty sure they have a menu on their website as well. It’s all bar food really but it is good, imo, having tried it myself.
