2026 IPMS Nats Update from the RC1

Attention IPMS Northeast Region,

 

Pre-registration for the IPMS USA 2026 Nationals (August 5–8) closes on June 30. After this date, registration will be available only in person at the convention.

 

This year’s Nationals in Fort Wayne, Indiana will be the last held within close proximity to the Northeast for several years. The 2027 Nationals are scheduled for Huntsville, Alabama (July 14–17), with additional southern locations expected before 2030.

 

If you have never attended an IPMS USA Nationals, this is a great opportunity. You’ll experience an unmatched level of craftsmanship, with thousands of outstanding and creative models on display—something you won’t find anywhere else.

 

Feedback from over 100 attendees from last year’s Virginia Nationals showed that participants returned home energized and inspired in their modeling.

IPMS/USA is proud to partner again in 2026 with the family of the late Ralph Forehand to offer a scholarship program to IPMS/USA members, their children and grandchildren. For those who didn't know Ralph there are some details of his longstanding service to IPMS/USA and his life in the image below, as well as information about how to apply for the scholarship. This year there will be up to two $500 scholarships available, thanks to the generosity of the Forehand family. We want to make you aware that Phishing scams are on the rise again.   One of them that we are aware of is an email that appears to be from "IPMS/USA", and states that one of our officers, or local chapters needs you to "handle an urgent payment for them."  We will never ask you to personally pay for something for our organization.   

These emails look very real, use our real names and titles, but usually you can double check the actual sender email and see that they are not from our email address but rather another address.  

We get several notices a week from members that receive them and are concerned.  We can tell you; the organization is in good financial shape, and certainly doesn't need you to send us anything other than your annual membership dues. Thank you!

Welcome to AUGUST! We have some fun things coming up this month. 

Hello everyone! August is upon us again. The year sure has been moving along way too quickly! This month’s activities are:

 Pizza Night: Possibly the biggest member favorite activity. Just be sure that your dues are paid up. Bring your appetite, but not your friends.

 Contest Night 3Q: This is the third installment of the annual contest. That means you can bring in any work that hasn’t already appeared in a quarterly contest. You can, however, bring in anything you built for the LONG LIVE THE KING theme contest since it is new work. 

I am sure we will also discuss the IPMS Nationals as we have several members attending.

Tuesday, May 3, 2022 BPMS Zoom Mini Meeting Report

Fourteen people attended the meeting. The next in person meeting will be Friday May 20, 2022 at the John Malone Community Center, 2303 Bergen Ave, Brooklyn where we'll have our first Quarterly Contest. In case you forgot, the categories are: aircraft, armor, ships, figures, sci-fi and miscellaneous. In case you forgot how to vote, Bobby will explain how to mark your ballot, a longstanding BPMS tradition. Mark shared photos of Noreast Con. There were over 500 entries. In industry news, Lou reports Tamiya's 1/35 KV 2 is available and Kevin told us Micro Mir's 1/35 CSS David is also available. The price of Testors paint will go up by 46% on May 15. You may want to stock up now. In-progress and completed work included: Panzer 4 G, RAH 66 Comanche, Spitfire (with Micro Krystal Klear camera window), Corsair, Bristol 175, Chevy Nova (with nail polish paint job), A-10, Fw-500, Roman Warship and F-84G (more on that later). Acquisitions included: NIAI-1 Fanera 2 (Mr. K is not a fan of this kit) and Speedpaint set from The Army Painter (Kevin's detailed write up will appear in the next Bulletin - watch your mailbox). Instead of introducing us to a new tool, Gil told us about Stynylrez, a water based acrylic polyurethane paint. The paint is temperature sensitive. Don't schedule a delivery if it's winter anywhere along the supply chain (ask Kevin). No featured topic to discuss this week and we still didn't have enough time for Frank to explain why his F-84 G had US, not Taiwanese, markings. He'll have another chance at our next meeting on 5/10/22 at 7:30 pm. Invites to follow. Hope to see you there.

BPMS ZOOM Mini Meeting Report: 02/24/2022

Not surprisingly, the situation in the Ukraine was discussed on Thursday.  Without going into details, some of our guys have family and friends in the conflict area. Please keep them in your thoughts and be considerate. Thanks. 

 

Eighteen people attended the meeting. It was good to see Jay after a long absence and it was nice to meet Tony for the first time. He's a car guy in Brooklyn. Hopefully we didn't scare him away. Lou reported Dragon has several new items, Tiger 1 and Sd. Kfz. 234 in 1/35 and several 1/72 kits in the NEO track series.  He recommended checking their website for details. Hobby Boss has a 1/35 Jagdtiger in the works. Tamiya's 1/34 Hellcat is?  Look at the IPMS Region 1 Facebook page for a post marking the 50th anniversary of BPMS. Thanks Mark and Bobby. In progress and completed work included: 41 Ford Woody (proof that Tony is a car guy), Birdcage Corsair (with an interesting Hellcat v. Corsair discussion), P-51 Mustang (with tips on painting propeller tips), Mk 38 twin 5"gun mount, SAAB J-21 conversion, TBF Avenger, Panzer 3, T-34/76, Manned Observation Satellite, Roman warship, Yak-42, An-2 and chopped 49 Mercury. Acquisitions included: Project Vanguard satellite (Kevin's first build, back in the day), Lancaster (big, even in 1/48), Soviet Proj. 628 sub (with V-1) and FY-1 Pogo.  Gil continues to find new stuff. We talked about a lot of things - Noreast Con on April 29-30 in Latham NY, new engines for old B-52s, a new A-10, how Alclad looks when sprayed over different base colors, keeping a record of build time for a kit, availability of Tamiya paint and glue in Siberia, tools from Northwest Shoreline and recommendations for Real Colors High Compatibility Thinner and the Netflix documentary, "Downfall". Once again, we didn't have enough time to talk about the decal library. Next week for sure, according to Bobby. It'll be the first item of business on 3/4/22 so, don't be late. BPMS Zoom Mini Meeting Report: 08/26/2021

Fourteen people attended the meeting including a new guy. Welcome Mike, glad you decided to check us out. 

We haven't heard anything about the reopening of the Community Center. Not to worry, weekly Zoom meetings will continue. The Hudson Valley Club is meeting outdoors. They'll hold their annual show in Poughkeepsie in October. Other shows in October - Armorcon (Southbury Ct) and Replicon (Freeport NY). Any more we should know about? 

Lou reports older Kitty Hawk kits are available again. No new kits yet. Academy, however, does have a new one, a 1/35 Panzer 2F. In progress and completed work included: Tiger 1, 1990 vintage resin Robin (the Boy Wonder, not the bird), USS Susquehanna hull , Corsair XF4-U conversion (Dr. V is performing major surgery, backdating Tamiya's F4U-1), P.180 Avanti (with interior that can't be seen), Kamov (Ka-28?), 1956 Chrystler 300, French Submarine Cruiser Surcouf and Merkava 4 (aka Frank's Tank). 

This week's dollar store find, plastic domed display cases suitable for 1/24 figures. 

For the featured topic, recent model shows, Don talked about the National Convention in Las Vegas. There were 2980 models in the competition plus a large number of "display only" models. Seminars were good. Vendors were well represented. Their kits were mostly older and their prices were either low or high (questions? ask Don). I expect we'll see some of his Convention photos in future. Until then, he recommended the 5-part YouTube showing all the entries. Inspired perhaps by "My Cousin Vinny", Don served as a Judge in Las Vegas (be advised, Convention Judges can't fix parking tickets so don't even bother to ask). Discussing judging and categories, several people wondered why there are so many categories for aircraft (single engine, multi engine, WW1, WW2, Cold War, Airliner, Helicopter, etc. and in various scales, to boot) and so few for Sci Fi/Fantasy? Was that ever a problem for you? We also saw photos from the AMPS Regional in Indianna, 244 entries. Mr. K plans to attend the Cherry Point Air Show next month. If he takes pictures, our more technically gifted members will find a way to share them. Thanks in advance. 

Lastly, some painting tips. Vallejo bottles with black caps are for brush painting. Bottles with white caps are for airbrushing. A base coat of Tamiya, with a finish coat of Vallejo works well. 

The next meeting is 9/2/21 at 8 pm. Frank C will send the invites and host. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend.

11/12/2020 Zoom mini meeting report

Twenty people attended the meeting. No new kit releases reported this week. 

 IPMS/BPMS MEMBERS ONLY: The charter is up for renewal. Please provide your membership # and expiration date to Frank C as soon as possible. Thanks in advance. 

Also, BPMS was asked about sponsoring a trophy package for the 2021 Nationals (assuming they are held). Votes will be taken at a future meeting. We had an update on the Community Center. The building and the grounds remain closed and are likely to remain that way into the start of 2021. That led to a discussion on the Christmas lunch and it looks like that'll be postponed too, unless someone can find a restaurant that can accommodate us. Any thoughts? 

There was a lot of in progress and completed work: Panther A, Cthulhu, steampunk fish submarine, EA 6 Prowler, F 117, Nosferatu, Celtic noble, Crown Victoria, FW 190, P 40, MiG 15, El Camino, DH 88 Comet, Yak 55, the Hulk, Stug 4, Brumbar, Opel Blitz, Stalin tank. We saw a demonstration of the Dspiae ball bearing pin vice, pricey maybe, but comfortable to use and inexpensive bits are readily available. We also had a well-illustrated talk on "Liquid Gravity" including tools and techniques needed to get it to stay where you want it. Hopefully we'll have more demonstrations at the next meeting which is Nov. 19 at 8 pm. Invites to follow. Hope to see you there.

7/9/20 BPMS Zoom mini-meeting report

Sixteen people attended the meeting, including a BPMS alum we haven't seen since he relocated many years ago. It was good to talk with him and see the work he's doing now. It made me think of all the members who left the area but haven't left the hobby. If you're in contact with an expatriate member, let them know about our virtual meetings. You can never hear too many decal disaster stories. Last night's stories focused on paint colors, paint thinners and paint alternatives. BK reported good results using nail polish thinned with lacquer thinner for car bodies. Aircraft and armor Work in Progress photos were shown. One of the guys found a new way to acquire kits, dumpster diving. He remembered to show us what he found. He forgot to tell us where he found them. Maybe it's in your neighborhood? Thanks to the generosity of members like JB we had another Random Number Raffle. The next meeting is July 16 at 8 pm. Invites will follow. See you there.

6/25/20 BPMS Zoom Mini-meeting report

Fifteen people attended the meeting. We discussed using compressed air for air brushes, masking with tape/paper/silly putty/parafilm, tools for propeller alignment, making dust covers, gator board display bases, using decals for canopy framing and, for the gardeners, how copper tape can repel snails. Works in progress/completed work included: Terminator, Sea Vixen, Mig 17(?) , Arado E340 (?). Zvezda kits are available again. The big news came in after the meeting ended. The 2020 IPMS National at San Marcos has been cancelled. However, it was put in the rotation, after Las Vegas (2021) and Omaha (2022). Closer to home, our plan is to keep the October Pledge Model date and move the Aurora Theme Contest to December. Don't worry, we'll have a Pizza Night and a Quarterly Contest before the end of the year. Of course, it all depends on getting back to the Community Center. We'll keep you posted. Thanks to your continued donations, we had another Random Number Raffle. Next meeting is July 2 , 2020 at 8 pm. Invites to follow. Hope you can make it.
