6/25/20 BPMS Zoom Mini-meeting report

Fifteen people attended the meeting. We discussed using compressed air for air brushes, masking with tape/paper/silly putty/parafilm, tools for propeller alignment, making dust covers, gator board display bases, using decals for canopy framing and, for the gardeners, how copper tape can repel snails. Works in progress/completed work included: Terminator, Sea Vixen, Mig 17(?) , Arado E340 (?). Zvezda kits are available again. The big news came in after the meeting ended. The 2020 IPMS National at San Marcos has been cancelled. However, it was put in the rotation, after Las Vegas (2021) and Omaha (2022). Closer to home, our plan is to keep the October Pledge Model date and move the Aurora Theme Contest to December. Don't worry, we'll have a Pizza Night and a Quarterly Contest before the end of the year. Of course, it all depends on getting back to the Community Center. We'll keep you posted. Thanks to your continued donations, we had another Random Number Raffle. Next meeting is July 2 , 2020 at 8 pm. Invites to follow. Hope you can make it.

06/18/20 Zoom mini-meeting report

Seventeen people attended last night's meeting. We saw some new acquisitions, many works in progress and several completed pieces. Lots of armor this time around, Shermans, Panthers, JS3, Renault Ft 17. Aircraft, cars and a 24# naval cannon were also shown. I predict we'll have a lot of nice work to see in person once we get back to the Community Center.  And when will that be, you ask. Quick answer, we don't know. It's up to City Hall. Hopefully we can meet in August, either inside or outside. We'll keep you posted. We floated the idea of continuing the virtual meetings, say once a month, without a random number raffle (The club has to make money like everyone else) after the regular meetings resume. There was an impromptu mini clinic on scribers and templates, a testimonial to the performance of Liquid Gravity, photos of a Wings over Dallas airshow a few years back (thanks N) and, of course, a random number raffle. Next meeting will be June 25 at 8pm. Invites to follow.

IPMS Region 1 Update

Good evening chapter contacts,

First let me place my IPMS RC hat on, hope all of you are still safe and healthy and building some models. Not much to report except that the national convention is still on as I send out this email I just check their website. I know that they have not received a a lot of sponsors so please consider sponsoring a category.

Now changing hats and putting on my Noreastcon Chairmen hat. As I write this the show is still on the committee is planning on getting together early in July and see were we go. I'm asking that all of you check with your chapters and see if there is still an interest in coming to the event. I have a couple of concerns one being if we require masks and social distancing when we judge the contest how is that going to work. So please discuss with your clubs and get back to me maybe with a head count so I can let our committee know.

Stay safe and healthy!!! and remember it is all about the models

BPMS 6/11/20 Zoom Meeting Report

Fifteen people attended last night's meeting. We discussed equipment (sources for compressor fittings, moisture trap performance), parts count (do you really need 800 + pieces to build that ship or tank), subscription kits for iconic cars (J, thanks for sharing your Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger) and kit reissues (Lindberg's Clermont and Bandi Gundams). We saw new acquisitions and aircraft, auto, ships (plastic and paper) and sci fi works in progress. We also saw the impressive camouflage D was able to produce using flexible masks. The Random Number Raffle went off smoothly. Thanks for your donations. Next meeting will be 6/18/20 at 8 pm. Invites to follow. Hope to see you there.

BPMS 06/04/2020 Zoom mini-meeting report

Seventeen people joined the meeting. Due to technical difficulties, we weren't able to present the 3D printing clinic. We'll try again. Of course, that didn't stop us from talking about it. Several people had examples of 3D printed figures and kits. There were questions about uses for 3 D printing pens. Many people shared photos of their favorite models and works in progress. We also shared experiences with airbrushes including cleaning them with ultrasonic cleaners.  We learned that "Liquid  Gravity" will keep an aircraft nose heavy. It will also run all over your work area if you're not careful. For the locals, Willis Hobby in Nassau County is in the process of closing it's building. Plans for the future are unknown, but items are being sold at discounted prices. Best contact them in advance if you plan to visit.

Next meeting,  6/11/20 at 8 pm. Invites to follow. Hope to see you then.  Stay safe.

5/28/20 meeting report

Seventeen people attended the meeting. We discussed paints (availability of older brands, performance of new metallic paints) and painting (don't spray when it's humid), digital camouflage, decal camouflage patterns and options for preparing and gluing 3D printed parts. Works in Progress included aircraft, autos and maybe a Red Dwarf Starbug, (a sci-fi thing, I could be wrong). We had another "Random Number Raffle" and thanks to those who donated items, we should be able to continue the RNR for a few more Thursdays. That said, you should never assume because...(you know the rest) so donations are still welcome. Next meeting will be 6/4/20. Invites to follow.
